I was just wondering what people thought were some of the most bloody awful covers you had ever heard. If a link to the song can be posted that would be most excellent. I'll start it off....Smashing Pumpkins doing Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1ckq4z31bA
That is pretty bad....wow But I think I have one that's worse. Limp Bizkit doing Tool's Opiate. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QhJeFjiLE0 And I thought I was the only one that thought NIN's version of Hurt was better.
Avril Lavigne covering Blink-182's "All The Small Things" One could say she wasn't that bad. But I HAAAAAATE it.
I disagree. I'm obviously a huge NIN fan, but "Hurt" really isn't Reznor's song anymore. It really does seem like it was written especially for Johnny Cash, and the emotion and delivery of the lyrics, combined with the music video... oh my god. It's the only music video that has made me openly weep. That's the only cover that Johnny Cash does that I actually like, though. I think. I'll have to go back through his American Recordings and see what's a cover and what isn't. My list will come later. I'm off to work now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgtBh423TDA They actually cover the entire Back in Black album. I'm still trying to figure out why.
Bring Me The Horizon - Eyeless (Slipknot) Avril Lavigne - Fuel (Metallica) Biffy Clyro - Buddy Holly (Weezer) Breathe Carolina - With Or Without You (U2) The Audition - Livin' On A Prayer (Bon Jovi) The Automatic - Epic (Faith No More) The Blackout - My Generation (Limp Bizkit) Linkin Park - My Own Summer (Deftones) HIM - Don't Fear The Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult) The Escape Frame - Nothin' But A G Thang (Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg) Evanescene - Thoughtless (KoRn) Fallout Boy - Beat It (Michael Jackson) Foo Fighters - Baker Street (Gerry Rafferty) Machine Head - Message In A Bottle (The Police) Refused - Voodoo People (The Prodigy) Silent System - In The End (Linkin Park) Tribal Ink - California Love (Tupac)
Chiodos raped Harvey Danger's Flagpole Sitta on one of those horrible "Punk Goes ______" compilations. Most of them are fairly horrible covers already, but Chiodos man...
What i don't like about Johnny Cash's cover is how monotonous his voice is. If it weren't for the video the song would be pretty emotionless. To me anyway. Also, it lacks those three chords
I think Cash's version beats Reznor's original when combined with the video, but when you take Reznor's in the context of The Downward Spiral, when you've just sat through the whole album in one go, then the original wins, hands down. Or live, experiencing NIN do Hurt live is one hell of a fucking experience.
I'm not a big fan of Johnny Cash's version of Hurt either. I don't mind it but the original is way better in my opinion
