    I like Chester's semi-power stance in that picture, haha... I am starting to anticipate their album whereas to begin with I wasn't that bothered.

    There probably are people who agree with you. There are better producers they could maybe have chosen, but personally I don't think there's an inherent problem with Rick producing again.

    I agree. Rick was responsible for LP trying some things they never would've tried with Minutes To Midnight and I trust Chester when he says RR is throwing out music that sounds like another band.

    Rick has worked with legends, and done many famous records...if anybody knows if a song sounds like somebody else its Rick Rubin.

    Yeah, I don't think Rick actually sat down with them while they were recording MTM and said "Right, you're going to start writing and recording music that specifically sounds like this". The gist of what he does is that he tries to give the musicians he works with an environment where they can be as creative as they're willing to be. He doesn't have a specific "sound" as a producer. Put bluntly, the actual style of music is down to the band as much as him.

    Well, I hope with their creative freedom they end up with a better sound than what we got on MtM. That's just me though.

    while I personally loved Minutes To Midnight, Rick Rubin helped them discover new musical flavors for Linkin Park in which I believe they will build on in the next album. They will take what they liked and didn't like and what fans liked and didn't like and quite possibly, make their Senior record their best album, ever.

    I think Rick's big on a raw, minimalist sound, from what I've heard of his stuff, but he doesn't confine himself and the bands he produces for to just that, he's pretty versatile.

    What he does best is help artists to redefine themselves sonically, and, after "Minutes To Midnight", he wouldn't drive the band to make another record like that.

    Instead, he'd try and get the band far away from it, 'cause, now, for the band, "Minutes To Midnight" has been done ... and it's time to explore the possibilities which that foray into different styles has opened them up to.

    That said, the band will provide much of the creative direction. I think Rick Rubin's role is to help them work in that direction and help them to flesh it out when necessary. A big part of that role is deciding what material will be appropriate for their goal with the record.
