    As others have said, to have this demo found ten years later is amazing.

    Shinoda says:

    "Many of you have asked about an old demo that is floating around. The song is called “She Couldn’t.” We recorded it in 1999 during the making of Hybrid Theory, but it never made an album and was never released by us. For legal reasons, that's all I can say about the song, but I hope this clears things up!"

    If it was recorded during the making of "Hybrid Theory", then was the band was called Linkin Park when they put out the demo CD's?

    No, Hybrid Theory didn't change their name to Linkin Park until June of 2000, all of the pre-Hybrid Theory (album) demos date to January of 2000 or earlier. The making of the album that became Hybrid Theory started as soon as the band Hybrid Theory was signed, really.

    This strikes me as odd;
    For legal reasons, that's all he can say? I know that if they sampled a song but couldn't get it cleared they couldn't legally release the song, but not being able to talk about it? Weird. Maybe it was written by someone besides the band or something?

    It is possible that the legal reasons he's referring to have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they've sampled another song. Also, the demo's probably owned by Warner by now anyway.

    I'd say it's very likely that there's a gag order on all unreleased material written into LP's contract.

    do you know why there would be such a clause? I just don't understand it apart from Warner not being able to milk any money from the unreleased stuff...... did I just answer my own question? :lol:

    It doesn't matter if they don't make money off it, legally everything musically that LP does or has done as a unit belongs to Warner. Legally speaking LP don't even own the material they make.

    And Warner owning those songs means they can't even talk about them in depth.

    That makes no sense.
