It's a tragedy, really. I read an article about his death a couple years ago, I mean the news reports and such. Terrifying. I still don't understand how people get sucked in like that.

I think he did that pretty adequately. I don't see Nirvana as being totally overrated, but I think the image of the band just became a little ... blurred following Cobain's death. That became something on its own, became part of what defined the generation in the eyes of today. Cobain's death is mixed with Nirvana's reputation and has become a major part of it. Hell, today's generation is all, "Nirvana? Oh, that band with that guy who died?"
Although, I do believe that's true. I don't think you should underestimate how big they were even before his death.
