Spring of 2010 is so far away! And it sucks that Slipknot fans are so hostile, but I guess it makes sense. Not to generalize, but I've talked to more than a few Slipknot fans who can't stand singers with high voices, so Coheed must be absolute torture for them You'd think there would be hostility towards a shit opening band who doesn't know what they're doing compared to the headliners, but Coheed's skill and musicality is unparalleled.
Man, how does this thread not have a hundred replies already? I'm looking forward to this a lot, anyway.
If you would've told me this back in 2003, I would've spit on this thread. Thanks to "Welcome Home", I can't do that now. Nonetheless, it should be a fantastic album...if I can remember it next year.
this should be epic... I think their new album was my favorite yet which means they are progressing and not loosing my interest! This will definitely be on my my favorite 2010 albums. I think its a shame that Coheed are on a tour where no one cares about them.... they totally deserve their own tour or at least share it with a better band.. sorry any slipknot fans but i cant stand them... although, the difference between me and obviously most of the slipknot fans is that I wouldn't approach a live show of slipknot with anger... I may not fully enjoy it, but I wouldn't treat them so horribly as it sounds like coheed got treat. I wish it came around me, I would have went just for coheed.
I was wondering how they were going to continue the C&C story, since you know, the galaxy essploded lol. I'm pretty excited to hear they're going to be more melodic, but I'm hoping for more epic heavy songs like Welcome Home and On the Brink.
Well, it is a prequel, so we're going back to when Coheed and Cambria were a seemingly average couple. And even going as deep as their creation, nothing really "epic" per se would be going on. My guess is it'll have a more sci-fi edge like Delirium Trigger and the other songs off of SSTB. When you're the world's last hope, and you gotta kick some ass, that's the time to kick in some tunes like Welcome Home and Gravemakers and Gunslingers, but when you're building robots and developing a virus, it's time for some proggier sounds.
I can't wait for this. Whenever Coheed puts someting new out, I get waaay in the zone and only listen to them for a good few weeks.
I actually find it funny that I completely don't get the story of the albums at all... and I don't get most of the songs... but i still love them. It just all sounds good! but yah, to those confused, coheed's albums are all part of a long story but they started with 2, so the new one will be part 1. and then i guess its over right? 1, 2, 3, 4a, 4b... or was there a 5th one too... im forgetting...
I hope it's on the heavier side. Their more rocking songs are extremely good, but I can't listen to poppunk for long enough to complete a concept album.
The Suffering? A Favor House Atlantic? Blood Red Summer? I used to love Coheed and Cambria. I probably still would if I hadn't been exposed to the majority of their fanbase.
Note that these are all singles. And I see nothing wrong with their fanbase. The MTV wave that came through after The Suffering was a bit irritating but I think overall it's a good bunch of people. Certainly better than a band like Slipknot's at least.
I don't see why the fact that they were singles makes any difference as to what type of songs they are. Welcome Home was a single, that was a metal song, Feathers was a single, that was more like a power ballad. And it's not just the MTV fanbase which is annoying (that's the case with most bands), most of the hardcore Coheed fans I've met seem to be incredibly snobby and elitist, with this attitude that Coheed is like the most technically proficient, avant-garde prog band that's ever graced the Earth, when in reality they're pretty much a typical "indie/alternative" band that just so happens to have a story connecting their albums and a frontman with big hair. I would openly use the word "snob" to describe, in one way or another, a good 90% of the people who inhabit their official messageboard. I can barely even listen to Coheed anymore because all it does is remind me of people who annoy the crap out of me. The fact that minus Claudio's high-pitched vocals, none of them would seem out of place on a Blink-182 or Offspring album, I guess. I'm sure industry "experts" would much rather classify them as something like "emo-prog-alternative-indie-melodic-hardcore" though... It's all "rock" to me anyway.
Good point, but I don't think it can be denied that accessability was a factor in choosing those singles. All bands are naturally inclined to pick their easiest songs to digest for a single. Welcome Home was different as far as their singles go, but would you say it was entirely representative of the rest of Good Apollo? Same for A Favor House Atlantic/Blood Red Summer or Feathers. If examples were chosen that were more representative of Coheed and Cambria, I'd accept a label like "Pop Punk". And you're pretty much spot on with the latter point. I have to agree.
I don't even know what to say about any of that other than I dont really agree with most of what you said. Yeah a lot of their fans may be elitist but a lot of bands' fans come off as elitist.
