I am looking for a new show to get into. I have always loved tv shows but really lack the time to sit down in front of the tv every week for a show and because of this I have missed out on a lot of good entertainment. I always wanted to watch Lost but never had the chance till I found it online and was able to catch up with it and its now one of my favorite shows. I did the same thing with Heroes.

I am really really into shows with twists and surprises like Heroes and Lost so something of this nature would be great but also comedy is always a good shot as well. I would really prefer shows that are on now or within the past few years. Im not really looking to get into some show for the 90's right now haha. But any suggestions would be great.

    My Current Favorites (for reference)

    Action:
    Lost
    Heroes
24 - I only watched a little so if no one can suggest anything better I will prbly spend alot of time catching up on this show.

    Comedy:
    The Office
    Scrubs
    That 70s show.
    Familyguy/southpark/american dad, etc
    Daily Show/Colbert Report

    Here some comedy.

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Fucking classic. I like My Name is Earl too.

Another great one is Titus, but it's been canceled for years, though there are still episodes on YouTube and all 3 seasons are out on DVD. Definitely check that one out.

Some good animated stuff is (also, canceled) Mission Hill, Undergrads, and 3 South. Again, try YouTube for them. All good, but Mission Hill is definitely the best of the 3.

    Both of these

and Arrested Development. That's a comedy where the plot includes lots of twists and such, however, it was cancelled a couple of years ago. There's a film planned though.

    Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.

PERFECT if you like action, suspense, drama, Ancient Mythology combined with Aliens and discovering new things.

also Stargate: Universe is coming out this summer.

    Supernatural

can't go wrong here, action, suspense, mystery, humor, more action and of course hot girls here and there.

    Fringe

If you like LOST, you are gonna like fringe. the show doesn't seem to have a lot of things like lost but they do have a lot of weird things you just have to search deeper for them and it's starting to get really good.

    Dexter

awesome plot twists and Dexter is a one of a kinf character, brilliant show.

    Comedy:

Chuck (NBC) - Comedy about a nerdy guy who knows Government secrets and protected by CIA (with the girl in the avatar right above me). It has many references to pop culture and also satires some of the other spy/action movies.

How I Met Your Mother (CBS) - Each episode starts with Bob Saget telling his children about his life when he was younger and how he eventually met their mother. You have a great supporting cast, with a stand out co-star in Neil Patrick Harris (Barney).

Weeds (Showtime) - Funny show about a mom in the suburbs who becomes a drug dealer after her husband dies.

    Drama:

House (Fox) - A drama about a doctor, Greg House, diagnostician who is super smart and leads his team to solve mysterious and difficult medical cases. The catch is, he's an ass and treats his co-workers poorly. He breaks the rules many times, but almost always finds a way to fix the person. He's a troubled man, who at times cares, but doesn't show it in the best of ways.

True Blood (HBO) - If you are into vampires and that fun stuff, it has its interesting moments. It's made by Alan Ball, who did Six Feet Under.

Dexter (HBO) - Has an interesting premise. Good cast, well made. Dexter is a guy who kills bad guys and does it as a blood spatter/forensics guy in the Florida Police Department.

Californication (Showtime) - Has its crazy wild moments, but when you get to the core of the show, it's well written and well made. Lots of references to other pop culture. David Duchovny plays Hank Moody, a talented, but troubled writer. He has a daughter with his ex-girl friend that he still is in love with. A simple summary of the tv show, but there is much more packed into each 30 minute episode:
"A writer tries to juggle his career, his relationship with his daughter and his ex-girlfriend, as well as his appetite for beautiful women. " His relationship with his daughter, Becca is very sweet and endearing.

There are a couple more comedies I could recommend as well - Gavin & Stacey and Lead Balloon, although they'll probably be slightly harder to find. Some of the references might not mean much to people from other parts of the world either, but not to the point where they are rendered unwatchable. Apparently there is a US version of the former planned though, of course it probably won't be better than the original. :p Speaking of which theres the original UK version of The Office as well.

Sorry I'm not being more descriptive, I guess people can always look them up on Wikipedia though.

wow this is amazing haha, I wasnt expecting so many replies haha.

I dont have time right now to read them all but I certainly will. Alot of people have house mentioned though which my girlfriend has been trying to get me into and I just can't. I like him as a character and all but i didnt really like it cause it felt like a hospital version of a CSI type show. Maybe I will try again but it just wasnt working for me.

30 Rock is also another highly praised comedy that I found very dry. I think its because of that guy... I think its zach bawldwin or whatever, could be wrong, but Im not really a big fan of him.

Thanks for all your suggestions though guys.

Yeah, I didn't really like 30 Rock the first few times I tried it. It's one you have to persevere with if you're going to end up a big fan, I find.

Prison Break: Amazing show. My favourite after Lost.

The Kill Point: Only 8 episodes long, but definitely worth checking out.

Fringe: Definitely worth a watch if you like something with a lot of twists and turns.

I was about to suggest this too, albeit the start of Season 3 bored me big time and I stopped watching it.
