is this also why the playlists were pulled from Myspace as well? I think it was called Project Playlist and I got a message from myspace help saying they pulled it off everyone's myspace because it didn't support the artist... absolute bullshit, so sick of copyright crybabies.
Well this is a stupid move on Warner's part. I don't know about anyone else, but i've found lots of bands through YouTube. In fact, I got into the Red Hot Chili Peppers through YouTube. I currently own three of their albums, and i'm planning on getting them all. Thats profit for Warner, which they would not see if it had not been for the music on YouTube.
For some reason I really doubt the bands care all that much. And the logic for saying you "found" a band through YouTube could just as easily mean that you'll be more likely to pirate their music. Can't really say for sure. Not sure how this makes Warner "bad" in any way. They're still working to get a new deal worked out.
A lot of bands use YouTube to post regular video blog updates for their fans. Not having that medium is going to hurt them, in a way. Yes, there are other ways for them to get their news out, but most people would rather watch a video of their favorite band telling them what's up, rather than reading about it, if they can avoid reading about it. People are just lazy that way.
I wasn't aware it affected blogs, I thought it was only for work contracted by Warner Brothers from the bands. The bands should legally still be allowed to upload blogs, as long as it doesn't contain work contracted by Warner Brothers. But if it really does not allow bands to post blogs, that's pretty dumb.
Actually, I hadn't thought of the two (official and promo videos paid for by the labels, and video blogs) being separate things. You're probably right, that the blogs aren't affected by this.
I know a lot of people that use YouTube to listen to music when they're away from home or something. Not a great decision, imo.
Next thing you know, someone might get MySpace to do the same and kill off the audio files on music profiles, and all the stuff on MySpace TV. Seriously, what do they expect to gain?
Music Videos are becoming increasingly irrelevant. No more channels really show them too much besides like MTV3 or whatever. Even Fuse is turning into MTV. Now, if labels start removing all their content from youtube, I could very well see it leading to the death of the music video
In Australia they just show music videos. Cept on MTV they show that music related crap. But [V], Max and shows like Video Hits and Rage really only show music videos. So i guess we've still got a few years to go.
That's just plain horrible. Half the bands' channels I'm subscribed to had their accounts suspended. I'm pissed off.
I would actually much rather see channel's like MTV and Fuse show LIVE videos of songs, professionally taken videos, like sessions and what not that AOL does and other places. I can't get enough of those.
a very stupid move on Warner Music's part its really a lose to them and fans not so much to youtube oh well
i honestly never really got the point of music videos anyways... to me its the music that matters, and unless its some really artistic video, i could really care less. Half the videos now are just the same cliche thing done over and over. On this whole youtube thing though, i think its retarded that labels want to make money off of, correct me if im wrong, but free advertising... I mean, the labels put music on here, which gets hundreds of thousands of hits and gets their music exposure. And in return for this exposure, youtube makes money off the adds on their site. Seems like a win win situation. If these labels don't want another company making money off their music, they should only make it available on the band site... except, labels know that band sites only reach a certain audience which is why they do use youtube... I could be totally wrong about how this whole deal works, but as far as i understand the labels just put their stuff up fro free. Again I could be wrong though.
Tsk tsk. Anyways, stupid move on Warner's part. Looks like they're not getting a slice of that youtube pie.
