Yet another case of Coldplay stole my song! But this time from a much more well known artist. Source: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/joe-satriani-sues-coldplay-for-plagiarism-1003919842.story and here is the song, Listen around 0:50.
Gotta love hearing about musicians trying to sue each other over relatively vague similarities after the offending songs have became popular. There have been other songs that have came much much closer to plagiarism over the past couple of years that no one seems to have bothered taking legal action over.
Ha, well it does sound like it. I think this is just really stupid. There are so many songs that sound a like today so this is just ridiculous. Viva La Vida is amazing and it's a shame that it's getting shit upon.
I think people need to realize that not everyone is out to get them.(meaning the artists that are suing other artists) I highly doubt Coldplay sat down and was like AHAHHA LETS RIP OFF JOE SATRIANI!! I dont get why its worth suing over.
Joe Satriani > Coldplay Obviously there's a problem if artists keep coming out saying Coldplay "stole" parts of their songs.
This is only becoming big news because Joe Satriani is well-known. Timbaland rips off chiptune artists ALL the time, and nobody cares. They even go as far as to say 'he's helping them out.'
He violates copyright laws and uses their work without permission. And it isn't just a sample, it's WHOLE SECTIONS of music. If one of us were to steal sections of music from someone famous to make our own music, we'd get in so much trouble. But he's Timbaland, so he can get away with everything. So sad that he claims to help them when he doesn't even give them credit. Timbaland - breaking laws and making money at the same time.
It's a he. And I believe he has, although details have as-of-yet surfaced. They're keeping it quiet, although it was big news last year.
Oh I remember hearing about this before...I mean, its obvious he took it and that seems like proof enough for him to get something out of it.
It's not like sampling is never ever plagiarism, though. This reminds me of last year when Wes Eisold was supposed to have tried to sue Fall Out Boy for ripping off his lyrics, because one of their songs mentions tearcatchers in the lyrics and so does a song by one of his bands, and because another of their songs mentions a drawer containing a bible and so does one of his songs. Yes, because Wes Eisold invented tearcatchers and founded the Gideons... oh wait. I think a lot of it was just his fans being drama queens but yeah.
I'm sorry, but if he honestly thinks they stole anything from him, he's retarded. They sound almost nothing alike. That no-name band that sued for Viva La Vida and claimed Chris Martin was in the audience actually had something as it sounded fairly similar. This has about one riff that's even remotely close.
Ant, you should know better by now than to use the word "retarded" in that fashion. You have received an infraction.
Wow, strict-ass laws for no reason. You know exactly what sense he meant it in. >_> I agree with him too, while it may sound a bit alike, there's no melody that hasn't been copied off or inspired by some other melody. No matter what melody, there's probably another one out there that is a lot like it, bar a few notes. This is stupid, Joe Satriani is just being a hardass because he can't make half the money they make and wants some exposure.
Joe Satriani deserves much more than coldplay. No one seems to realise that maybe Joe thought he wrote something awesome and original, and when it comes up in some popular bands single, anyone would feel pretty cheated.
