I love how there are so many people wanting to break away from the mainstream in everything they do. No more mainstream news, they say. No more mainstream music, they say. No more mainstream movies, mainstream books, mainstream magazines, they say. But yet, it's now cool to break away from the mainstream, so everyone's doing it. It's now mainstream to listen to indie rock, or be an unsigned artist. It's now part of the mainstream to seek out alternative news sources. So what isn't mainstream now? What we used to consider the mainstream? Or just doing nothing at all?
It doesn't matter to me. I do what I like and listen to what I like and watch what I like. That's all there is to it. All the people who actually worry about making sure they're not listening to mainstream music or watching mainstream television are sad individuals in my opinion.
Eh, I don't care whether what I do is what other people do or not, it's just a hypothetical type thing, really.
Mainstream news is generally known as Alternative Media, and stuff like... MSN, CNN, FOX, LA-times, NY times, anything Mass-media-News is generally Mainstream. Mainstream music are publicly well-known artists, bands that have many songs on the raido, bands with many cd's that can be found anywhere, those are mainstream music. Mainstream magazine are magazines such as TIMES, PC-CLUB, Anything that has alot of subscribers. Not so sure about movies =\. What is Alternative? STuff that isn't mainstream, or made for the masses. An Alternative News would be an Independent Reporter or a small news group. Music, would be Artists in the making, or under-ground music. Alternative Movies are Indie movies that aren't well known because no one super famous is in it, or doesn't have alot of money for massive amounts of ads.
I think some people are lazy and if they want an 'alternative' so badly they should look for it and not be lazy by generalising everything.
Amen. Now that I think about it, I: 1) dunno why I posted this to begin with, and 2) dunno why I phrased it the way I did.
