That's funny because that's the exact same thing what the mayor of Amsterdam did after there were huge fights every night, he went, drank some tea with them, petted them on the head and told them not to do that again. Ofcourse, it only got worser and now they're basically the boss down there and police can't do anything because really, who the feck goes to sit down and have a cup of tea while they should be punished? Wimp much?! So you're right Arlene.
To clarify my position on this: I'm not talking about al-Qa'ida or any other extremist terrorist organization. I'm talking about whole countries, like Iran and North Korea. There's absolutely no reason why the United States can't sit down and peaceably work out resolutions and things like that. However, the United States does not negotiate with terrorists (like al-Qa'ida), and I highly doubt President-elect Obama (or even McCain, if it turns out he's elected) would sit down for a cup of tea (as you put it, Marj) with terrorists. Like I said, I'm talking about countries, like Iran. There are peaceable solutions to the world's problems, and you don't always need to go in with your six-shooters blazing to get the job done.
That's not what I was saying. I just don't believe you can get things done only by talking. NO, that doesn't mean I want to shoot everyone's head off. But there are always assholes who don't want to listen and still continue doing what they were doing. It's not always sunshine.
I know that and I'm not saying it's always going to be as easy as asking them to stop, but we need to at least try to solve the problems with words before they get violent to the point of annihilating the world, because at this point, if the wrong person is pissed off, the world might be doomed, whether it's the U.S. dooming the world or Iran or China or whoever.
I know, and I agree. Believe me, if there's one person who hates to see people in pain it's me. But now I have to leave, going to the zoo! =D
I'd just rather have a hearty handshake than a punch to the face, personally. I don't think it's too far-fetched to think the U.S. could come to a peaceable resolution with Iran and other such countries; if we can't, then it's off to war we go, I suppose. I don't want to see a repeat of the Iraq War. Yes, Saddam Hussein needed to be removed from his powerful position there, but the U.S. has admitted it had no concrete evidence of WMDs in Iraq. The whole thing could've been handled much better; millions of people would still be alive; the U.S.'s economy wouldn't be a heaping pile of shit (because most of our spending has been in Iraq); and the world might like us a little better. I just hope Obama's smart about things. I don't think he'll act on anything unless he's got concrete, 100%, absolute truth, unlike the Bush Administration. Have fun at the zoooo.
Some Republicans are so damn norrow-minded that it's annoying. Everyone is calling him a Commie among other things. it's sickening, and they jus tneed to shut up and realize they lost...big.
He's anti-America, then he's converting America to communism. Nobody should vote for a black guy/muslim/Osama, then the only reason people voted for him is 'cause he's black...
Yeah its pathetic what people will believe if fed to them. Its lead to me questioning the intelligence of some long time friends on myspace.
Communism doesn't necessarily constitute liberal politics. But yeah, there are plenty of other politicians I could name who are more inclined towards welfare and so on than Obama, and there are those who are more liberal, and they still aren't anywhere near Stalinism or whatever it is that's putting people off these policies. I mean, and I hate to actually agree with David Cameron (not least because I'd have to change my opinion again in about five minutes), Gordon Brown is probably a lot more inclined towards that. I guess there's some irony in how, even though he is criticised heavily, not many people seem to have picked up on that.
Exactly. It just seems weird that they would assert that he's the anti-christ, when there are plenty of democrats who would be far more ideologically-frightening to them as president. This is the type of confusion that ensues when you try to use logic against people who have no fucking idea what they're talking about, I suppose.
Obama launches new government website: Change.gov President-elect Barack Obama has launched the website change.gov, where one can find news about the transition and inauguration and information about his agenda. The site also has a place for people to share their ideas for government and their stories about the campaign. www.change.gov The site keeps crashing (likely from the hundreds of millions of people viewing it right now) but it should calm down within a few hours.
Wow, thats amazing. I just really hope people arent dumb enough to post the racist/hate-motivated bullshit they have been saying on facebook.
I think it's incredible that they actually have a link for you to apply for a job under his administration. Forgive me if I'm wrong but I don't think any president has ever done that before. He's really making this government open to the people.
The site isn't even loading for me. Also. Remember The Innovation Agenda? If not http://www.usatoday.com/news/pdf/obama-at-google-11-14-2007.pdf
