I know it's a miracle, people around the world actually wanted him to win. The world seems newly optimistic after Obama won.
3 million absentee ballots haven't been counted, last time I checked. True its at 95% reporting and 52-48 is a large defecit for 3 mil ballots to overcome. But think of it this way: we still aren't sure really. the fact that it's been this close means that CA will try to overrule the proposition. Or you can always move here to MA =D
And as far as international support goes, I know a lot of people who "Hated" him. Initially at least. Or those who just heard that he is planning to bomb the Afghan-Pakistan boarder. Well, McCain was planning on the same, with triple the amount of troops. So, yeay for Obama
True. I was like all morning after i heard that Obama won. And I've got absolutely nothing to do with politics. It is truly wonderful. Congrats, everyone.
"The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for the Democratic primary debates, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me ... answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."" . I cannot imagine Obama using the fuck word.
Ok, Obama won! but even with Obama as a President, I don't think you'll see great changes in comparison to previous governments...[wish I'm wrong..] + probably I wouldn't vote if I only had 2 candidates to choose from.. But what the hell! Here in Greece we have lots of candidates and they all suck!! [previous elections: I voted....writing Tool lyrics on my vote ...don't tell my dad! lol!]
There's always more then two choices to vote on for the presidency, like the Green Party, the Peace and Freedom Party, etc. They just don't get enough support.
I think the most striking thing about last name was seeing Stephen Colbert tear up when it was announced that Obama won the presidency. Even Colbert, someone who as part of his act plays a tough as nails sarcastic asshole broke out of character last night and got emotional. I cried when Obama won though too. This is a big victory, not just for America but for civil rights everywhere.
Something I just got through Facebook that gives me a little bit of hope Nov 05, 2008 Results Status Roughly 400,000 votes separate yes from no on Prop 8 – out of 10 million votes tallied. Based on turnout estimates reported yesterday, we expect that there are more than 3 million and possibly as many as 4 million absentee and provisional ballots yet to be counted. Given that fundamental rights are at stake, we must wait to hear from the Secretary of State tomorrow how many votes are yet to be counted as well as where they are from. It is clearly a very close election and we monitored the results all evening and this morning. As of this point, the election is too close to call. Because Prop 8 involves the sensitive matter of individual rights, we believe it is important to wait until we receive further information about the outcome. It's a fact that there will not be any major changes in US foreign policy (at least not in the first couple of years). Because even thought Obama probably is a genuinely good person, a lot of his party associates that will be in charge of foreign politics are not. I am personally afraid of Biden the most. The man hates Serbs and he's not hiding it and his son even called us thugs in one of his speeches.. And it really bothers me that Obama says that he wants to stop the war in Iraq but he also wants to start new in other places. That's not a change. But all in all, it will get better with Obama in time. It has to. I just hope we will not have to wait too long for that to happen.
I haven't heard Obama say anything about starting wars in new places, what I've been hearing him say mostly is that he wants to pull out of Iraq and focus on Afghanistan more.
Rahm Emanuel named as Obama's Chief of Staff: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rahm_Emanuel I can see why he picked him: "Inspired by his pediatrician father, one of the major goals he spoke of during the race was "to help make health care affordable and available for all Americans."[10] Emanuel has maintained a 100% pro-choice voting record and is generally liberal on social issues. He has aligned himself with the Democratic Leadership Council and the party's centrist wing, but is not among its more conservative members. Rahm Emanuel endorses the United States Public Service Academy Act. Emanuel is one of the more prominent members endorsing the act." He basically mirrors Obama on some things, but also contrasts with him on others which is what Obama wanted...someone who wont always agree with him.
Then it's my mistake because I didn't realize that you have any troops in Afghanistan at the moment. I also read something about possible military actions in Iran and Pakistan, but I can't say I'm sure it was Obama himself that was speaking about those two countries.. Anyway the point is that he still thinks the military presence of the US is needed in the world, whether it's Iraq, Afghanistan or any other country.
I give, this IS a very historical thing. It is a huge deal. And I can say that I am proud of Obama for making it as a black man. That is certainly impressive. I'm just weary for the future.
What bothers me the most is how some Republicans are claiming that Obama's going to destroy the economy and spend more money. ...What the hell have the Republicans been doing for the past eight years? Planting flowers? I also think it's funny how a lot of Republicans are claiming there's going to be another terrorist attack, even though it couldn't be more obvious that the rest of the world is completely enamored with Obama as President of the United States.
Well just the fact that he will send troops to Pakistan's borders will start a brand new chapter. There isn't something like "taking the focus off more". I support Obama, I just hope he knows exactly what he is doing.
If Obama's smart, he'll solve the problems with words first, instead of busting into other countries gangbusters style like Bush.
