It has a lot more chance of helping than doing nothing. You arent even giving it a chance to work, so how can you say you are any better off?
It could also be argued that for periods of time, it did work, when the right person was in office. People who never would have been elected if everyone sat on their ass because they didnt fully agree with the candidate.
Well, until some sort of revolution occurs, you're gonna have to make the best of the system you have.
Yes, but if you don't believe either Obama or McCain ARE the right person, and neither seems better than the other, then I do not see why it is wrong to decide not to vote to show the parties that they have to give you someone worth voting for- you won't just vote for the sake of it.
You don't have any preference at all though? Lesser of two evils is better than ending up with the greater of two evils.
No, no, don't get me wrong. I have a preference. I prefer Obama FAR more than McCain. I am just saying, if you actually had no preference (or neither appealed to you ENOUGH to merit an actual vote) then I don't think it is wrong to stop voting, and if you really feel like that then it is good to show the party that you won't support anyone who is thrown up there. Obama though is brilliant and I think because of what happened with Kerry and Gore, we got a candidate that is inspiring new voters to come out in record numbers. If I could vote, I would choose Obama. I am just saying some people may not choose to vote and do not forfeit their right to complain.
Oh ok, well then, ah, good But you must admitt, their are a lot of people who are just too lazy to vote, who still whine and bitch and moan about whoever gets elected.
True. But the people who elected the person into office and still complains, a year later has no merit to because he or she gave the vote to the person. =D
I know there's always the risk of people who know nothing about the political situation making stupid decisions, but I actually like having compulsory voting like Australia does. Actually makes cynics get off their ass and vote.
Maybe a little off topic, but can I ask what these propositions people are voting on are? Proposition eight?
We're allowed to bitch, because then the person we put faith in and trusted to help us get through this rough time failed. If we vote for someone, we're allowed to say something since our vote helped put him in office. And if the country falls like a lead zeppelin due to the other candidate, we also have the right to bitch since we voted for the other choice. If you don't vote, you really can't say anything since you had the chance to do something about it... but didn't. You're Hiro Nakamura, not Nathan Petrelli.
and I wouldn't expect anything less than a snide remark from you, either. Oh, and I'll bitch about the country all I want, thank you. The country is going down the shitter faster and faster, and NO ONE can change that. It's going to get worse and worse, and eventually something will have to change or we'll face a problem greater than anything in this country's past. I, for one, choose to not support the system. No Vote '08. If you don't like it, well, okay. I'm sorry you feel that way.
