Thank you! @ Lauren: I won't "go listen" to those bands you named because i simple dislike punk music. You know, i'm so not in the mood for this right now, but i just wanna make something clear. When i said her music is punk (which is not true because she's pop with a little bit loud music and i don't care what everyone else says) i meant "nowadays" kinda punk not the good ol' days one. Besides, i wasn't the one to suggest that idea in the first place. It's a fact that she's considered a punk rocker, or even worse a rocker! and to me, that's just plain stupid. So, yeah.
I told you to go listen to them so you could compare them with her. Not go listen to them just for the hell of it. Okay, you said her music is punk just because that idea has been projected by others and you don't even believe it? Only to backpedal by saying that you don't think she's punk? Whatever.
Even though most people would agree the bands I listed are punk, and almost everyone also agrees that Avril isn't?
Well. Avril has some songs that can be referred to as punk or punk-influenced as far as the actual musical genre is concerned. It's really the same as saying, I don't know, Black Flag and Suicidal Tendencies weren't punk rock bands just because a fair amount of the music recorded by each of those bands wasn't. As for punk as a mentality, it's really not the point arguing about that, because for every argument you can make for something being 'punk' there'll always be someone to point out the discrepencies. I wasn't actually doubting anything in regards to the bands you mentioned before.
Its like this quote from Billy Joe Armstrong about what is Punk. (paraphrasing here because I don't remember it word for word) Someone asked me once what the definition of Punk is so I kicked over a trash can, and said that's Punk. The guy went and kicked a different garbage can, and said "So that's Punk?" I said no, that's trendy.
I think if you went up to most punks and said "Black Flag is about as punk as Avril because they have the same amount of punk songs" you'd probably get punched in the nuts. But I see what you're saying now.
If that did happen it would probably be because it was one of those rabid Henry Rollins fans, as much as anything. Besides, punching someone in the balls for stating their opinion? That wouldn't be punk rock at all. I'm pretty sure there's actually an organisation called Rock Against Punching People In The Balls. But yeah, on topic: I'd be surprised if Konami actually think they can outsell Rock Band and GH, going by what I've seen. Without wanting to come off as cynical they probably are developing this just to make a bit of cash off the back of that particular trend.
@ this thread. As for whether or not Avril should be on there because she's 'pop', GH3 had Superbus, for God's sake. I don't actually like Avril, but jeez. As for RR, the whole thing might be a bit cynical, but the tracklisting is pretty good. Aren't they all supposed to be covers though?
Ah fair enough. I just seem to recall Kayce saying something along those lines. In that case, I might pick this up, depending on the price.
