I think this is what I was talking about. People are starting to take things too personally when they shouldn't. It's OK to support your candidate, but it's another to start lashing out at someone else for their opinion (or, in this case, a harmless joke). I'm not saying anyone's lashed out at anyone, but I've got a feeling it's going to happen soon. The closer we get to Election Day '08, the more animosity there's going to be. Like I said before, let's try to keep things civil. We're all friends here, not the mudslinging candidates we're supporting (and, yes, both sides are mudslingers).

We are getting dangerously close to a 'debate' which consists completely of ad hominem attacks on each other, so if anything the more light-hearted posts are a good thing.

Woah, I didn't mean to start a fuss, I am just saying if someone is a republican and everyone is constantly bashing their party for the last 8 years and possibly the next 4 as well, it could get on their nerves a bit.

http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_political/702285.html - This article sums up perfectly everything that is wrong with Sarah Palin. Yes ladies, vote for McCain because he has a woman as his VP! Never mind the fact that she wants force you to give birth to any resulting children if you get raped! Yep, she's a feminist with women's rights in mind, that's for sure!

Derek: I wasn't riled up at all, more amused at people's reaction to your post. Everyone acted like it was some crazy resemblance, when...it wasn't. That's all I was saying.

And thanks Ross and Sylar,.

About Palin...I like her, but sometimes I feel she's way too extreme conservative. I think abortion is wrong, and it's about responsibility. If you don't take precautions to not get pregnant, but you do, then you have to take responsibility and have that child. Even if you DID take precautions, but they failed, same deal. It's an innocent human life. However...with rape, I think that that's a different case, but only to a certain point. I think abortion is acceptable in the case of rape, but once the fetus is developed to a certain point, then I don't think it's right.

Abortion should not be used as a form of birth control, and I actually agree with you there. I feel that it should only be acceptable when the woman's health is at risk or when the pregnancy is brought on by rape or incest. Even with that the abortion should happen early, and the fact mccain and palin are voting for an 100% ban on abortion is why I will not be voting for them. McCain's voting record shows he is entirely against a woman's right to choose.

Joe Biden, king of the one liners.

    Joe Biden....oops! :whistling

    Biden's tech voting record
    Patriot Act
    Net neutrality
Hmmmmm...if Obama loses this election its because of Biden. As I said when he was picked as his VP, it was perplexing because it showed Obama is vulnerable on foreign policy experience and it goes against his mantra of shaking Washington up i.e. "CHANGE!" But...how can you choose someone who is a pro at gland handing America? Make fun of Palin all you want but you cant deny Biden was not Obama's best decision so far. Two failed Prez campaigns is a red flag.

He's pretty on point there. I mean, it's a gun.

Oh no, he made a joke that was slightly un-pc! Forgive me if I'm wrong but conservative politicians and commentators seem to say a lot worse, and with at least as much frequency, in the US.

As for the rest, that's not all for me to criticise as I've already said I might have preferred other people to Biden, and I'm pretty sure I haven't called either side out for having inconsistent views. But, you know, politicians always change their minds, whether it's from the heart or not. If anything I agree that Biden doesn't seem like the best choice overall, but then again he doesn't seem any worse than a lot of politicians in most respects. Also, in regards to both sides, at least it isn't David Cameron. :p

He then went on to say later on:

"Enough," he said of the focus on the contrived lipstick controversy. "I don't care what they say about me. But I love this country too much to let them take over another election with lies, phony outrage and swiftboat politics. Enough is enough. These are serious times and they call for a serious debate about where we need to take the nation. We can't take another four years that were like the last eight. Spare me the phony outrage. Spare me the phony talk about change. We have real problems in this country right now and the American people are looking to us for answers. Not distractions, not diversions not manipulations they are looking for real answers. That's the type of debate I will attempt to have."

Here's a longer video of it:

    ---

THANK YOU. I realize there's some people here who don't like Obama, but for those who do: it's about fucking time he called their lies "lies" and struck back hard. This only helps to reinforce why I support this guy.

He's angry and I LOVE IT.

I kind of doubt it being that the press is liberally biased so their "heroes" seem to get the benefit of the doubt. Case in point, Ted Kennedy.

Have you seen any programs on Fox News Channel? They more than make up for the liberal bias on any other channel, and they make up for it at least tenfold.

Well, I didn't say either side did it more than the other, myself. In any case, there isn't much racism in what Biden said there and there definitely didn't seem to be any malice, so I don't see the issue. I do appreciate the fact that you're trying to balance the debate though, considering that democrats/liberals/Obama supporters make up a vast majority here. :)

Well thanks, considering how loved I am around here.
I wasnt trying to paint Biden as a racist but more of him being out of touch with his audience. In this case, people in general. I mean who really makes a comment like that in public? I know my friends and I have made jokes about 7-11s, etc being full of Indians but I always know my audience too. To me, its not about being "PC" or racist, it just shows how much he doesnt get it.

Really? That's a hefty statement to make considering its FoxNews v NPR, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, ABC. Fox would need to add more than FBN to make up for it.

Nah. It's not too big a statement to make when your parents watch Fox exclusively. (They're not even conservatives, which makes no sense.) In any case, at least the liberal media covers McCain and other conservative candidates, whereas a channel like Fox News does nothing but tear down liberals and Democrats and anyone else who goes against their views. It's a wonder Alan Colmes is still employed there after his tirade against McCain a few weeks ago, if I'm being honest.

I'd like to add, for the sake of putting the past behind us (as if it's not already there), I agree with Dean. We haven't been able to hold lively debates here in a long, long time, and hearing the other side's point of view (even if a lot of us may not agree with it) is kind of amazing and allows us to voice our opinions against the other side of the aisle instead of having everyone sitting here and just agreeing with each other, because that's boring.

(Please realize I'm not necessarily saying you're on the other side of the aisle, because you've clearly made it known that you're not sure who you're voting for, but I think you know what I meant.)

I...didn't hear any offensive language. Did you even post the right video? That wasn't funny at all.

    No offense.
