Sounds like your power supply's going. How old's the computer?

My sister's computer did the same thing. It was the power supply.

When the fan on my old PC went and the computer used to overheat, it would restart or beep from inside of the computer to warn of a possible emergency shutdown.

Is the computer very warm in the back, more importantly..is the fan running smoothly or clogged with dust?

If it's overheating, A good move to a ventilated area helps :)

Hell, if it's just the power supply, you're lucky. My computer did the same thing nearly a year ago. My motherboard was on the verge of going kaput. It finally died and I had to send it in for an RMA. Waited over a month for a replacement. Gotta love ASUS. *mutters*

Also, it could be a stick of memory going bad too, but I think that normally would give off a BSOD.

I've had this problem before too. Although, mine was down to a setting I had switched on in the BIOS. Try pressing delete when your computer starts up and looking for an option called "AUTOMATIC SHUTDOWN TEMPERATURE". It will then list a few selections, like 25, 30 etc, just select none and save the settings.

This will stop your pc restarting when it reaches a certain temperature. That could be the problem.

If you do that, you're going to have even bigger problems if it really is overheating.

I don't think I've ever run into a BIOS that has that, interesting. Either way, if temperatures are getting high enough to trigger an overheat shutdown, then obviously you would want to cooling your system down. Ignoring the warning will lead to worse problems.

You can buy cooling pads and such made just for laptops at staples, best buy, and so on for as low as like $20 and Ive heard they work great
Itll help if you get it now instead of having to pay alot more for an entire new computer if it messes up anything inside

I'm sure there are some off-the-wall models from really small companies that would put something like that in their BIOS if they knew their computers were complete shite and would overheat.

Do newer Dell's have that feature on their motherboards? I know the one I've got doesn't.

Not that this is relevant to the topic or anything.

I dont think so. I think options like this are usually limited to lines of motherboards sold by themselves for DIY people. Maybe the XPS line, but probably not because XPS is nothing but overpriced crap from cheap manufacturers.
