That sounds like it came off Hours. I'm not complaining.

It's a great song. I can't wait for their new record now.

    Hahaha.

Good song. Sounds like Far but catchier and with no screaming, not that Far had much screaming anyway. So basically it sounds like Gratitude. It's the best released so far in the sense that I really liked it the first time I heard it whereas the others had to grow on me.

I ripped it but I don't know if I'd be allowed to post it. It's not the best quality anyway, still listenable but yeah.

    Artwork and tracklist.

Cover is pretty different, looks like the cover of a fantasy novel or something. But I suppose it's pretty cool. Can't wait til the day this is released, some of song names are pretty cool. I have 100% faith in these guys.

Also, as someone randomly discovered on AP.net, FFAF is suddenly listed under artists on the Victory Records website. I know Funeral started their "Join Us" label in the UK, but this is a new development...

I saw the album cover before. I don't like it. I think the graphics from their October/November tour poster (their current default picture on Myspace) would have been better.

As for the Victory thing they've mentioned that they're looking for help with distributing the album, so that's probably the arrangement there.

Yeah, Victory are a nob of a label.

You Can't See The Forest For The Wolves has been uploaded on their Myspace profile. Gotta love users on Last.fm who are still complaining about how the songs released so far apparently don't sound anything like how Ryan described the album, when this track is the closest to that yet.

Also, the album is being licensed to Victory in the US and Canada and Roadrunner in the rest of the world. So on the one hand they have a label that will potentially screw them over at all costs and another that will pointlessly reissue the album 92832844772818291 times over the course of the next few years.

In all fairness, the songs the band's released so far all sound like they should've been on an album between Hours and Tales Don't Tell Themselves.

I think structurally Kicking And Screaming sounds more like Casually Dressed or Hours than TDTT.

    As for Wolves...
    - Screamed vocals and double kick? Check.
    - More metal-influenced riffs? Check
    - More technical and experimental? The time change towards the end and the acoustic intro means it leans more towards that.
    - Sounds closer to Casually Dressed than their other existing albums while still not necessarily fitting on any of them? Check.

I agree with you. But there are also a lot of parts in their songs that sound like they could've been taken right out of a pass in a song that was on Tales. I can't really think of any at the moment, but that's what I'm hearing, anyway.

As for what I meant, I meant vocally, really. I think it sounds as though his voice on Memory so far has sort of been between Hours and Tales, more than Casually Dressed.

But I do agree that, instrumentally, the songs sound more similar to Hours and Casually Dressed, just not the vocals. I mean, there is some screaming, but not enough for me to really... notice, I guess is the word.

As for using that acoustic intro, I won't use that in an argument to say they're experimenting. I mean, "History" is almost entirely acoustic (though it's not played on an acoustic guitar, it's played on an electric guitar through a clean channel), so it's not as though they hadn't done something like that before. The time changes, yeah, I can see what you mean there.

Overall I like "Wolves" a lot. I think it's my favorite song so far.

I agree that if you look at individual elements of the songs released so far, such as some of the guitar leads and vocals, they sound more like TDTT, possibly hours. That's not necessarily a bad thing imo, but it seems like you think so too.

I did say "more experimental", as in more so than their existing albums. There obviously have been plenty of tracks with acoustic intros leading into heavier songs ever since Metallica at least, but it's new for them to use acoustic guitars in that way and I think they've lived up to the claim that this album will be more experimental than their previous efforts, judging by individual parts of the songs released so far, and also the way that this album seems relatively quite eclectic as well.

And of course, as they've mentioned a few times before, they have a policy of not adding things to songs for the sake of it, and I don't think any of the ones released so far would have been improved by much with more screaming. I remember reading that there are supposed to be a couple of tracks that are much heavier than anything else they've recorded to date, so unless those have already been released (in which case I disagree that they're heavier) there may still be some with much more screaming. It'd be nice anyway. It's been expanded upon much more since by bands such as Alexisonfire but I'd like to see more tracks like, say, Escape Artists, where Matt and Ryan harmonise with each other during choruses.

No, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. I think Hours might be my favorite record by them, just because it's a much more coherent album than Casually Dressed & Deep in Conversation. Tales Don't Tell Themselves was a great album, but something about it didn't stab me in the jugular like their first two albums.

As for their use of acoustic guitar: you're right. I guess I hadn't though of it in the context of all their other songs. You're right, their new songs are pretty different from their old songs. But what strikes me is how similar they are as well. You can listen to those songs and say, "This is Funeral for a Friend," and at the same time, you can say, "This sounds kind of different." That's a good thing. So I'll take back what I said.

Now, as for what I said about their use of screaming, it doesn't bother me they haven't used it much since Casually Dressed, but it made a lot of their songs much more energetic. "The Art of American Football" is still one of my most favorite songs just because it's so energetic. They don't have to put screaming to a heavier song at all, but it'd sound kind of cool, especially since Ryan has a great screaming voice, and Matt's got a good enough singing voice that he can harmonize over him, like you said.

Overall I'm looking forward to this album more than any other this year.
