Rarely ever has anything been so beautiful it basically brought tears to my eyes.

Tonight was that exception. That opening ceremony was one of the most stunning displays I have ever had the privilege of witnessing.

And oh god...just seeing it in HD....beautiful.

I read that NBC bought exclusive rights for the opening ceremony but didn't want to broadcast it live. If that's true then it's a disgrace.

My dad woke me up at 5am to record and watch the opening ceremony with him. It was truly epic. Everything was so spot on, considering how there were well over 1000 performers for a few of the performances; it was insane.

It stirred something up in me, the strangest feeling I haven't had in a long time. I know it sounds cheesy as hell, but I felt honored to be able to witness the ceremony even if it was merely on television. Plus, it also made me feel proud to be chinese.

There's many reasons for that, including getting on programming that still will draw viewers, but not as many as the Olympics, and wanting to put the Olympics on at one time where it's going to draw the most potential viewers. Then there's advertising fees, which they want to maximize by putting it in watchable timeslots.

Yeah I know, but it still sucks for people who want to watch it live :)

Some things about these Olympics makes me think it's all corrupt. Or is that just me?

I didn't like the opening ceremony. It's all so military. Doesn't exude peace and love etc.
+ the little girl singer wasn't the real singer, and half the televised fireworks were fake, digital ones.

Nah, you're right. There's been a lot of talk that a lot of the events are fixed so the Chinese competitors fare better.

Like, their gymnastics squad? Half of them aren't the legal age, I've read.

Yeah...and maybe you don't agree with this but I don't believe Phelps won that one race by 001 of a second.

And I was watching a bit of boxing this afternoon and it was a french against a dominican, the french was better and the ref didn't even awknowledge some of his punches but like 10 seconds before the end he gave the dominican a 2 point penalty, they counted 4 points though and tada, the dominican won.

You're not the only one who thinks that, Marj. My only problem with Phelps, is that I don't believe he did it all with his own strength. I mean, two finals in one day?And gymnastics, etc, are very, very biased sports. I don't like it at all, but hey. It's a fact.

I think we're third right now?

You could really say the same thing about any olympic athlete. Doping has changed sports forever, and it's impossible to know everybody who's using.

Yeah Michael Phelps is an extraordinary swimmer and all, but seriously.. You have to be a machine to swim and win so many races with 7 world records. And Americans are not allowing the Chinese to do doping test on their athletes, they're doing it by themselves. :whistling: Plus, Omega, the official timekeeper is one of his sponsors. :whistling:

Well, it's not as if the people who didn't win medals weren't doping too...
