The Road (2006) by Cormac McCarthy Published by Alfred A. Knopf | 256 pp | Click here for synopsis The first LPA Reading Group will start August 1st, with a reading of Cormac McCarthy's The Road. This should hopefully be a short, but enjoyable book that will help us gauge interest for future selections. I'll be going off the hardcover 2006 edition in making the page guidelines for each week. All who can are welcome to participate! Everyone who joins will read the following pages each week, after which we'll load up into a chat room and discuss! If we can't get the chat room to work, we'll post in here. Schedule Meeting #1: Friday, August 8th Pages: 1 - 75 (" "The dead fields. A barn in the distance.") Time: 10:00 PM EST Meeting #2: Friday, August 15th Pages: 76 - 169 ("He stopped and stood watching, biting his lip.") Time: TBA Meeting #3: Friday, August 22nd Pages: 170 - 241 (end of book) Time: TBA Members Dean ImInYourDreams Marj Minus Xero Omar
If you plan on participating, please let me know via this thread. I'd prefer not to be sitting in an empty chat room like a fool.
I'll try and participate.. I have one book right now I'm still trying to finish, and on August 2nd Breaking Dawn comes out.. I would like to read the book you suggested though, so I'll definitely try. This is a great idea though.
Just a reminder, that we're officially starting today, even though the first meeting isn't until next friday. So anyone interested, now is the time to get the book (likely available at your local library -- for free!). I promise it's not long and boring. ;-) Since it looks like there's only three of us at the moment, we'll stick to posting in this thread for our meeting.
Here here. =/ I'm not sure if I'll join though, I still have a large pile of books behind me I want to read to be honest.
We'll do it through this thread, so if you have access to the net while you're there, then maybe you can still post. I'll have to check my page cut-offs again, since those w/ the e-version won't know where to stop lmao.
This book doesn't have chapters, just divisions every few pages, signaled like: "* * * * *" I'll post the sentence on which to stop, so e-book reader can search to find it. For now, just go ahead and start reading. Try not to go beyond 1/4 of the way through.
That will be hard. If the book interest me. I might read it in two days.. blah. But I will try my very best.
Oh cool, yeah I'll have access to internet. If something interests me I'll easily read the entire book in 1 time but I'll do my best.
I'll only skimed through it so far.. i was planning on starting in the morn'ing. or very very late ate night.
I know.. I have a hard time keeping my concentration. I mean.. I think it's more of reading vertically rather than slanted. With a hard cover, Im looking down at the book not straight in front of me.. so.. it hurts my head kinda.. plus I like to lay down and read, and I can't do that with an e-book.
