On another note, am I the only one who is highly amused by the fact there is a film coming out called, "Donkey Punch"?

 

WTF THERE IS?

Jeez, that's the funniest news I've heard all damn day.

 

The content of that film is based roughly on when I lost my virginity, you know.

Goddamn you Microsoft. You just nerfed your system for the casual audience draw. Thanks to the friggin' Wii the core are being forgotten for the casual for an easy buck. Plus a good third of the presentation had to do with music, movies and downloads... not games! ARGH!

I hope Nintendo/Sony put some faith back into the core... So disappointed and pissed off. :\

First, I see a "12 month subscription for $12" and oh, how excited I was. But NO, being a UK resident I have to pay something in the region of 30 pounds...

As a core gamer myself, who enjoys a casual game every once in awhile, I dont agree that its a bad thing. I don't think they really "nerfed" anything. The avatar idea is one that was a hit with the wii and now all three platforms are going to have their own version if it. I, myself, could care less about the dashboard and all that shit...the games look amazing. Final Fantasy XIII, Resident Evil 5, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Dead Space, etc...

 

It's an interesting idea, but look at the new dashboard, look at the avatar's eerie resemblance to Miis... It's not slick and not only is there too much white (empty) space but it's far too childish/glossy. Even if this is optional, Microsoft's decision to use this as a representation of their future worries me. I could care less about Live features because I rarely play online but the last thing I want to do is sit and watch a movie on my 360 with people on the Internet... Or play super Uno. I'm afraid as is to play longer than an hour fearing the red ring of death.

Game-wise as well, Microsoft shoved non-exclusive games in our face throughout (look at the 360 intro, he named non-exclusive games as "console blockbusters" as if they were exclusives), and although I liked the announcement of Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform, c'mon... Last year they had Halo 3. They didn't even mention Dead Space... What? Instead they waste time mentioning Lips and have some pop singer who can't even sing her own song correctly... show us how it's done.

I don't know... their presentation was solid but not impressive. What they showed was nothing new. But it's cool. There's still two more companies to go.


edit: But I'm more than willing to retract my critiques should Microsoft prove me otherwise.

Yeah, I think they are trying to make a move at the casual gamer and I agree that the new dashboard does look ugly. I am hoping that is just the default and that you can buy themes that take up that background so it isn't so ugly. There really weren't any surprises besides the dashboard and FFXIII but I have to say that Lips intrigues me because you can sing your own music collection and not just the songs in the game. I really wonder how they are going to do that.

I am hoping Nintendo has a few tricks up its sleeve and shows of this Motionplus thing I'm hearing about.
