I've been looking for some new music lately, and I was just wondering if anyone here could recommend anything to me. I'm looking for stuff similar to My Darkest Hour-era Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Sky Eats Airplane, Breathe Carolina, and Forever the Sickest Kids. Basically 'emo' with keyboards And don't suggest BrokeNCYDE, lol. Or Kill Hannah.
I've seen Breathe Carolina live. They're alright. I'd suggest The Medic Droid... that's all I can think of at the moment.
Yeah, I seem to remember hearing them somewhere but never downloading anything for some reason. Thanks for reminding me though
I hate the fact that you used the word "emo" to describe half those bands, because the bands I'll suggest aren't emo at all. Remember, kids: Sunny Day Real Estate -- emo; The Used -- post-hardcore. Anyways: The Medic Droid Kill Hannah Underoath Enter Shikari Dead Poetic (on some songs) Attack Attack! Alesana Bless the Fall The Secret Handshake (basically FTSK without heavy guitars)
I'm well aware of the origins of the term 'emo'. I've used the term here in the sense that most people on here would relate it to, which I thought would end up with more band recommendations for me. I'd rather not get into a debate that's been done to death. Thanks for the recommendations though. Dean: I didn't think Refused would fall under 'electronica'?
Ah, fair enough. I've got a couple of songs from The Shape..., so I'll have to download the rest. Cheers.
I'm sorry. I wasn't really trying to start a debate, I was just stating my opinion. It also wasn't really directed toward you so much as toward everyone who calls anything "emo" for the sake of ease (or to be a prat, which I know you weren't being). So sorry. Anyways, Cute Is What We Aim For is another good one, though I'm not sure how much keyboard they use. Same with Motion City Soundtrack and maybe Emery.
Yeah I get where you're coming from. I can't stand people who just label everything 'emo' as an insult, but in the other respect I've just become acclimatised to the change in definition, as such. I probably came across as a bit of an ass in that reply, so sorry. I've heard Emery and MCS before, but I'll have to give CIWWAF a listen. Cheers.
It's cool. I think we both got our wires crossed a bit there, as it's clearly something that bugs the both of us. In Fear and Faith might be another one you'll want to check out. They're similar to SKSK. Also try Hellogoodbye. ...
Yeah I think you're definitely right. It just really grinds my gears, to quote Peter Griffin. I literally just downloaded In Fear and Faith's Voyage yesterday. Trippy. I'll have to listen to Hellogoodbye though.
I was sort of being a smart ass as far as recommending Hellogoodbye goes. They're pretty much your standard 12-year-old-girls-listen-to-that-band band.
Yeah, I probably should have said I already have ES's album, since they're one of the 'big' bands in the genre. Thanks though.
Maybe InnerPartySystems? It was posted here not so long ago, anyway I think they're more of a synth band and such. Click 1 Click 2 Sorry, if it's the wrong kind of band...
yeh i thought u might of checked ES out lol. how about you try a band called.. Hadouken! they are pretty damn good - but they are possibly not what you are looking for. still worth checking them out though i guess. [edit]: and why dont you try Does It Offend You, Yeh? i saw these on Monday just gone and they where ace
I've only just discovered this band, but they've got keyboards (in the same vein as The Devil Wears Prada, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Enter Shikari) and they're considered "math rock" (in the same vein as Protest the Hero). That's a two for one if I've ever heard one. They're called Battles.
Shit, I'll definitely have to check these guys out. Thanks also, to JJ and Gan, I'm listening as I speak.
