He's Gay. But also a fucking good singer. He's got quite an ear for a melody does ol' George. Brilliant songwriter. Anyone else a fan? I've really been into Father Figure, Praying for Time, Freedom 90 and Fastlove lately. Great live act too. This is fantastic: (Father Figure)
Well i guess it would be nice, if i could touch your body... not you sir. I know not everybody has got a body like you!
The greatest thing that ever happened to his career was Limp Bizkit. They made George Michael look like the fucking Beatles.
I vote Limp Bizkit though =\ And I swear to god, if I listen to his voice singing "Last Christmas I gave you my heart" on every radio station again next December, I'll have to kill him.
I'd say making two of the great pop albums in history was the best thing that ever happened to his career. Limp Bizkit make everyone sound like The Beatles just through their mere existance.
*random flame mentioning the awesomeness of three dollar bill and linkin park starting out in the same league as lb*
Limp Bizkit aren't all that bad. Same as GnR, they just have a frontman who is a total douche. Too bad all they'll ever be remembered as is as a joke. Not that I dislike them. Well, I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to George Michael, but he does/did have an awesome voice.
What about there (Limp Bizkit) guitarist, well former guitarist. His name escapes me. Well he's been making a name for himself over the past few years. But anyway what's the link between George Michael and Limp Bizkit? I hope this doesn't make me sound real stupid.
no, MJ's "Thriller" would be a great pop album in history (i'm not of that opinion, but it's a widely believed opinion). I bet if you walked up to someone on the street and asked them to name a George Michael album, they couldn't. Likewise, just because you're a fan doesn't make their work "great pop albums in history", just like because i'm a fan of NIN doesn't make some of their albums some of the quintessential rock albums in history. just saying.
Faith sold an absolute fuckload of records (Best selling album of '88 I think), had Four #1 singles and won the Grammy for Album of the year. Maybe Listen Without Prejudice doesn't fit the criteria but Faith definately does I reckon.
if time has told us anything, the number of albums you sale does not equal greatness. jethro tull won a grammy once.
Of course not, but like Billie Jean and Beat It, tracks like Faith and Father Figure are still played often enough all these years later. Obviously it's had nowhere near as much impact as Thriller, but no album has come close in any genre. So it's not really fair to use Thriller as a measuring stick. It's widely regarded as one of the defining pop albums of the 80's. I think you're the first person to disagree! Nothing wrong with that, I'm just wondering why when the facts are heavily stacked against that view.
because i don't buy into the opinion of greatness defined by number of 5 star reviews, album sales, chart positions or award wins. i guess i'm just different. i define greatness on my own terms, i don't let others tell me what's great, like the Grammys or Rolling Stone or VH1's I Love The 80s. also, i just don't like his music, so there's that too.
Haha, fair enough then. I can understand that. Nor do I let the media form my opinion, although I just reckon there are some magnificently written tracks on that album aside from it's positive reception and big sales figures. It's not like he had a team of writers doing it either. All his own work. In any case, cheers for sharing your non Limp Bizkit related thoughts.
