I think the "Got News?" thread should be changed to "Got Milk?" as a tribute to Baseketball.

I also think that the "Soccer" thread should be changed to "And By Soccer you mean Football, Bitch" as a tribute to the Facebook group of the same name.

I also, also think that Artists Gallery and Writers Cove should be merged since their dead as a dodo as is.

Tech Talk can fuck off into Kick Back Cafe and I'll fuck off back to the rest of the forum.

C'mon people, we all know Casey is on about me.

But in all seriousness I'm greatful that my infraction has now expired. It just didn't seem fair to carry it for so long when it was clearly an accident what I said. I think the new points system should work fine. :)

How should I know that is you? Chris is a common name. Further, just because you're friends doesn't mean you couldn't be going through a public falling out by calling him a smartass. There was no smiley to indicate you were being playful.

I think you know you were wrong about this one, so I'm kindly asking you not continue with this. If we didn't choose to review members based on the text in their posts, then we'd inevitably be returning to the favoritism bias that has occured in the past.

seriously omar, this isnt a courtroom is it? he was messing with me and he does that all the time, and thats a small part of what makes forums fun.
Im only here because of the 'other music' section but I know something is seriously wrong with this forum. You guys are far too tight on about everything, everything has to be constructive, no spelling errors and above all never even close to flaming for fun, which ruines a lot of the fun to me.
Infraction systems dont work, and I know, on my forum we have it but dont use it because of no-one gives a flying f about it, temp bans are something touchable, when people are banned for 2 days that has far more of an impact then 'a note', what an infraction basically is. permabanning somebody after 3 infractions is something aswell, youll loose a lot of members if you only permaban.
Something else, I dont like the 'elite' system here with the coloured names, VIP signs, arcade games (yeah I know that is for the people who pay, but a lot of others that didnt have this stuff aswell), but hey, lots of people here surely like it so thats not that big of a problem to me, it only gives newer members the feeling of not beeing a complete part of the comunity.

I deffo think you admins and mods should look around more forums to see how things are handeled there

It's not really an elite system. If you stay here long enough and contribute to the site enough, you have your user name color changed. I don't think that's a problem at all. It should be incentive for the newer members to post, not incentive for them to leave. That's just a ridiculous way of looking at it.

As for the VIP, I think it was a great idea (yeah I know I'm VIP so I might be one-sided) but people deserve to be recognized for contributing to this site, especially if its monetary because it's an option. No one has to do it but Derek and whoever else owns the site could use the help, if someone is willing to give it. Changing their user status is just a small payback to those people.

ok, Im cooled down now, and reviewing my post Im wrong at some points. The VIP system is a good thing yeah (the company that owns my forum uses adds for income, since this site doesnt it needs donations, and people willing to pay should get a diff status)
I still think giving people a diff status doesnt help bringing in new active members, I see a lot of members who add a lot to this place (like Dusan) and/or have a lot of posts but arent on the various 'teams' I see, and I do see people who dont contribute a lot who are. This wanst my biggest problem with this place though.

VIPs are for people who have donated to the site.

Anything else is just based on the number of posts. The less of a life you have, the higher ranking. Simple.

I've never come across a forum that doesn't have a rank change for the number of posts someone has.

Regarding the "smartass" remark, we had no idea if he was being serious, or if he was your friend and just kidding. We had no idea. And that's the problem with the internet, you can't convey joking and sarcasm as well over text as you can in person. If I call you a smartass in person, you can tell by my tone of voice or facial expressions whether or not I'm serious. But when it's text on a webpage, it is a lot harder to determine whether it's in a joking matter or not. Normally, simply adding a smiley at the end of it is enough to tell someone it's a joke. But when a post is ended with "Smartass" with no smiley or indication of anything, you can't fault us for assuming he was being serious. "Smartass " means something entirely different than "Smartass"

And we've found the infraction system to work well. Every forum is different. We've been using the 3 strikes thing since the LPA first started, and if we would've found that it didn't work, we would've changed to something else.

 I'm so glad that my infraction will actually expire now. All I have to do is not do anything really stupid after that, and I'm fine.

I'm going to try and dissect your post:

    1. We do allow spelling errors, but not a blatant disregard for the English language. You incorrectly typed "ruins," "lose," and "community." We don't mind that because it was unintended. But "h!, u guys r kool iluv linkinpark+ inthendsmi fav song. k ->bye!" is not appropriate. It may have been when we first opened (and were teens), but we've gotten older, and aren't willing change that rule. That kind of trash talk is reserved for LPMB/LPU.

    2. Flaming for fun can get out of hand. I think we've all experieced a situation when we said something offensive to someone in jest. Since its hard to know the threshold for what is and what isn't offensive, we'd rather eliminate that possibility all together.

    3. As for "permabanning," quality over quantity. I'd rather have only 10 intelligent, respectful members here than 1000 lunatics, as you can find on LPMB/LPUMB. I like your idea on temporary bans, but that can be difficult to mediate (ie: what sort of warnings constitute how long someone is banned? Do we include all 3 warnings, or only the last one?). I think what we've done now will solve the problem of good members (and staff) slipping up.

    4. I believe arcade games are available for any member who reaches a certain number (say, 1000?) posts. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    5. New members aren't part of the community anyways, so as Mark said, banners should be an incentive rather than a turn-off.

What forums in particular were you thinking of? The few I frequent all have similar rules. But I'll surely check your recommendations. :)

    Hope this helps.

I'm going to have to agree with Omar on this point. When I first joined, I was like WHOA.... why do they have colored names?

And when I found out about how many posts you needed to have, I went post-crazy.

But in doing that, while I was (in reality) postwhoring, I started getting sucked into the community. And that's really the point, IMO. I really don't even care that I have the VIP status either. I just feel great that I contributed to the site. You could even take away Supermember status, I still wouldn't really mind.
