I figured since we have top albums of 2007, it'd be kinda cool to start a Best Everything List. Best Album, Best Movie, Best Book, Best Video Game, Best Soundtrack. Feel free to add a category if you want to, or if you don't have something to fill in a category, don't worry about it!

Best Album of 2007
[IMG]

Lupe Fiasco's The Cool

I feel that Lupe's lyrics are amazing and I personally love his flow. I've had this CD in my car playing non-stop since December 17th. He's definitely in a league of his own right now.

Best Movie of 2007
[IMG]

Sweeney Todd directed by Tim Burton

Blood, Blood, and more Blood. This movie packs a violent punch but has you cheering for more. The entire cast is spot on and plays their respective parts perfectly. Also, it was interesting to watch actors like Johnny Depp and Sacha Baron Cohen actually sing but they can really belt out some tunes. I was pleasantly surprised.

Best Book of 2007

Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey by Chuck Palahniuk

I love most of Chuck Palahniuk's books, mainly for his satirical humor and his tongue-in-cheek attacks on society. This book had me really interested and I loved the way it was written.

Best Video Game of 2007
[IMG]

Assassin's Creed for Xbox360

So many good games came out this year, including Halo 3, Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, etc...but I feel that this game takes the cake. An excellent storyline with fast-paced play and excellent AI. This game had me fully satisfied whereas games like Halo 3, Bioshock, and Rock Band left me wanting more. I love the games, don't get me wrong, but I feel like they were all missing something. Rock Band definitely needed more songs with it's launch.

Best Soundtrack of 2007

Sweeney Todd by Stephen Sodheim (featuring Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Sacha Baron Cohen, Alan Rickman, etc..._)

One of the main reasons I loved the movie so much was because of the excellent score. The actors/actresses perform the pieces so beautifully and it really adds a hell of a lot to the experience. This is up at the top of my list as far as musicals go, along with Phantom of the Opera.

Man, I haven't played Assasin's Creed, but if I had to vot e the best video game of the year, it would have to go to Call of Duty 4. As for album, I would ahve to say Serj Tankian's CD or LP's. Their the only two I own and Spiderman 3 for best movie because it's the only movie I've seen this year, haha.

Best Album

Kenna - "Make Sure They See My Face"

Easily the best album of this year for me. Kenna's blend of dance, liquid funk, R&B and electronica is unlike anything else that any other artist can produce. Truly something you need to hear to believe.

Best Movie

"Superbad"

This probably seems like an incredibly strange choice, but this year was an incredibly piss-poor year for films. To anyone who hasn't seen Superbad I imagine it comes off as an incredibly childish film without any real substance or character, as I thought before I watched it. I can easily say this was the funniest film to come out this year.
An honorable mention to Transformers though.

Best Game

Mass Effect

Easily game of the year for me. A magnificant story, massive gameplay world (or galaxy in this case), interesting characters, great gameplay, and also one thing a lot of games are lacking more and more these days, replay value.

Best Viral Video

Blendtec - "Will It Blend"? series

There are few things more satisfying than seeing every object you can imagine ground up in a blender :p

Best TV Show

Lost

It will forever be Lost. Heroes was bitterly dissapointing this series. Lost's intrigue and mystery will keep me interested in it.

I'll post a full list later, but best film will almost certainly be either Hot Fuzz or This Is England, and best game definitely WON'T be Kane & Lynch.

Best Album

Minutes to Midnight
Linkin Park

Although, in comparison to other records, Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight may not be the best album out there this year, it is without a doubt an album that shows what could be considered some of the greatest effort ever put into recording a studio album. Linkin Park was put under pressure by critics and fans this year, who have shown a want for a change in style, and more of an evolution from the band. The band responded with Minutes to Midnight and showed the world that they could change and still make great music. Linkin Park takes this category.

Best Movie

Transformers
Directed by Michael Bay

Transformers took this category the moment it came out, regardless of the releases afterward. For some die-hard Transformers fans, you might say that the plt of this movie wasn't all that great, but that CGI will say otherwise. The incredible CGI in this film will keep you watching. The idea of gigantic robots fighting and transforming into modern-day vehicles is always exciting, and to see it portrayed so well in this film is something amazing. Michael Bay and his crew did an excellent job with this film and I'm definitely looking forward to the sequel(s). Transformers, without a doubt, is the best movie this year.

Best Video Game

Halo 3
X-Box 360

I don't think I even have to explain. Halo 3 is the best video game this year.

Best TV Show

The Office
NBC

This show is just too hilarious. All of the awkward moments, the hilarious lines...it's just too funny. Although this season has had a slow start (with the exception of episodes like "Survivor man", and despite the strike putting a stop to the filming of new episodes, this show is still one of the funniest shows on TV today. The Office takes this category without effort.

Best Album
[IMG]
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works
Avenged Sevenfold, Atreyu, Poison The Well, pay attention. This is how to implement elements of hard rock and alternative into hardcore. The only way it could have been better is if Chris Pennie were still in the band, with a healthy working relationship with Ben Weinman, although Gil Sharone is still an outstanding drummer.
Runner up: Les Savy Fav - Let's Stay Friends
Most disappointing: Tomahawk - Anonymous

Best Film
[IMG]
Hot Fuzz
Almost as good as Spaced. That should speak volumes if you've seen it, and if you haven't then you owe it to yourself. But yeah. Great film. After I saw it the first time I just wanted to stay in the cinema and watch it again and again. Shame Timothy Dalton forgot humour when he played James Bond, although his two films were still great in regards to the grittier side. But that's neither here nor there.
Runner up: This Is England
Honourable mention: Blade Runner: The Final Cut
Most disappointing: Knocked Up

Best band reviled for 'selling out' when, in actual fact, they made a great album regardless of how good their old stuff is
[IMG]
Against Me!/New Wave
Runner up: Rilo Kiley/Under The Blacklight
I defy you to find any music recorded this year that can beat the second half of The Ocean.

-

Best Game coming soon. Possibly Best TV Show as well. I haven't actually read any books that were released this year though, as far as I can remember.

I liked it. It was decent, but definitely not GOTY material, IMO. A fun game, but it will get crap for the controversy regarding the review scam on Eidos's end.

Best album
Say Anything's In Defense Of The Genre

Runner up: The Shins' Wincing The Night Away
3th: Bloc Party's A Weekend In The City

Best movie
300

Honorable mentions:
Pirates of the Caribiean: At World's End
Evan Almighty
Spiderman 3
Das Leben Der Anderen
I Am Legend

(Then again, I probably haven't seen the actual best movies of 2007 and I forgot like 10 I did see).

Best videogame
Halo 3

Not very surprising but I have to say Halo 3. Solid effort, played on it more than on any other game this year.
Campaign was dissapointing but the multiplayer still brings new things.

Runner up:
Call of Duty 3: got very close, it's probably better than Halo 3 overal but I haven't played it quite as much.

Honorable mention:
The Darkness: great story, great graphics, Mike Patton.

Tv show:
LOST

The only show that actually wasn't affected by the writers strike.

Honorable mentions:
The Office: if it would've been a complete season Lost would've had some serious competition.
Scrubs: This season was rather lame, but it's still Scrubs.
Heroes: Haven't seen the whole season yet.

False. They will only have 8 episodes, which is half of the intended 16.

I originally planned to make a simple list of my favorites, but boredom prevailed and I wrote all of this shit. Either that, or my mind was replaced with an entertainment critics. Either way here it is.

Best Album
[IMG]
The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works

A triumph. That very well may be the only way to describe the third full-length release from New Jersey's kings of Mathy, mind-fuck metal. How an album culling influences as varied as Drowningman and Justin Timberlake can be anything but a disjointed mess is beyond me, but somehow The Dillinger Escape Plan pulls it all together, and never ceases to amaze. Whether
its Ben Weinmans fret-board melting riffs on "Lurch", or the crooning melodies and scalding vocal tirades of Greg Puciato on "Milk Lizard", the Dillinger boys keep the listener guessing. At a brisk 38 minutes, Ire Works is an album that never overstays its welcome, and cements DEP's place as the reigning kings of underground music with ambition. You can bow if you'd like to. :D

Best Movie
[IMG]
Superbad

In a year filled with big-budget blockbusters such as Shrek The Third and I Am Legend, leave it to Seth Rogan and Judd Apatow's gang of filthy, but lovable cronies to bring us the hit that no one saw coming. A simple story of two high school outcast (and lifelong friends) on a quest to procure alcohol to fulfill the most cherished of adolescent rites of passage... getting laid. While the story won't be winning them any Oscars, it does its job of keeping the pace of the film going. With that done, the ensemble cast of young comedic actors
lets loose with some of the most vulgar jokes that make the American
Pie franchise seem like children's fare. Superbad succeeds in its fearless simplicity of creating a movie that makes you laugh, while also filling
your mind with teenage nostalgia. A definite must-see.

Best Stand-Up Comedy
[IMG]
Dave Attell - Captain Miserable

2007 was a great year for stand-up (especially if you have HBO), but none made me laugh as hard, or as long as Dave Attell's Captain Miserable. Whether cracking jokes about incest, or wondering aloud why there aren't any new soups (to which Dave suggests "whale-cum soup"), no topic was taboo
for this veteran comedian. By the end of his 60 minute routine, you'd be hard-pressed to point out someone who wasn't offended by at least one (or ten) of Mr. Attells expertly delivered jokes. In a year where Jim Norton and
Bob Saget put out their own specials, being the most offensive is an impressive feat. At the end of the day, though, Dave's just a funny ass
mofo - which is all I need.

I might do favorite TV show and game, or I might not. Depends how bored I get, again.

Err, no, correct!

Of course, I was talking about season 3 since season 4 won't begin until during 2008, which would make it a rather stupid choice in a "best of 2007 list" thread.

Think before you start correcting people, amigo!

Well there was no way season 3 could have been affected by the strike since it started long after the season was finished. Anyway, season for begins on January 31. Can't fucking wait :)
