No, you don't have to recreate it word for word, note for note. You need to give it some justice. Which the drummer for Madina Lake did.[opinion]But it would be nice if the vocalist didn't sound like a dying cat. [/opinion] And actually. That video I posted, the official video btw, is NOT the studio recording. It was shot in one constant shot, being played live, thus the running in with the microphones and such. This was the best out of 12 attempts, and this one was the one that "didn't suck". I admit, it's hard to cover NIN, but I still think Madina Lake could have done a better job. Now, let's compare ML's cover with the LP cover of Wish. And for those of you living under a rock, that would be this. The original melody and style of the song is kept, BUT the personal touches are added with the downtuned guitars, Chester's naturally gravelly voice (which is kind of the same type of voice that Trent has). There are minimal screams to mess up the style of the song, and where there is screaming, there is screaming. Where there is singing there is singing. It sounds similar but still has LP's stye to make you go "oh wait, this isn't NIN! Linkin Park did this?! Wow, it's good!" That's a good cover. Screaming over a track and just happening to know all of the words isn't.
There are two versions of LP doing Wish...the 2004 rar version wasn't bad but the other one (not sure from when or where) was fucking awesome!
I know that it was a live performance, I just meant it wasn't taken from a cell phone in a crowd lol. But there is no point arguing about his voice, I thought it was good, you didn't.
You don't have to be a crappy band to still do a crappy cover. Madina Lake = good Madina Lake playing NIN = It just doesn't work. EDIT: And on a personal note, I honestly prefer the RaR version of the Wish cover over all other recordings. The 'gravelly' tone Chester uses just plan [opinion]sucks to me.[/opinion]
I like the cover as a whole. But his vocals, they really aren't shit on Trent, he doesn't have the power.
there's some crap over on ETS about the sped up version of the Me, I'm Not remix containing a clue to a new site (iamthelight.net). The site isn't even up and running, and not to mention the site was registered in 2005. So I think it's a hoax. Or the creater of the thread at ETS just misheard.
Yeah I read the thread and I was like "uhmmmmm noooo." I just wish Trent would do something with the ARG already to get everyone to STFU with the conspiracy theories. *headdesk*
Nine Inch Nails just so happens to be tonight/tomorrow's "featured article" on the homepage of Wikipedia. ROCK!
