My mouth has officially dropped, and I'm pretty sure today isn't April Fools' Day.

They probably found some message board online where people discussed it at length and made their decision based on that, because we all know large companies like that don't ever do their own research. Either way, that's great news.

Wow, I am shocked they'd announce that. I mean, I could imagine them giving up on fighting it, but usually they would at least keep up the scare tactics.

I'm hoping this means Demonoid will be back soon. Even though the CRIA and the Canadian police are different entities, it doesn't do the CRIA any good taking the site offline if the police aren't going to make any effort to seek out the users.

Yeah. And it's not like the CRIA can threaten them with other police forces either.

    "Don't download music illegally."
"What are you gonna do about it? You're Canada, I'm in France."
"I'll send the Brazilian militia after you."

Since when have the police been dishing out the scare tactics? That would be the work of the RIAA and co.

I would imagine, depending on the users nationally, that they would send that nation's police force after them. Or whatever. Unless they're Canadian.

Well, just they way they announced this, it seemed like they were not actually CONDONING filesharing, just not trying to stop it anymore. To me it seems like downright saying this would actually increase file sharing though, making it an odd statement for them to make.

Although, have you read the recent study which shows that file sharing doesn't harm the industry at all, and actually helps somewhat?

Those of you that believe that file sharing damages the industry have officially been brainwashed by the RIAA's bullshit. ;)

Why did you quote me? Your reply didn't address what I was saying at all.

Yes it did. You were talking about how the announcement would increase filesharing, and Tomi pointed to a study that shows that filesharing helps the industry, making the announcement not so odd. ;)

No I didn't, I just said that the police were not condoning file sharing, so it seemed off that they would make a statement that would cause it to happen more often.
