Don't know if its too early for a discussion about this book but..i just pulled an all nighter to get it done within 2 days of release like i promised myself and TADAA

Fantastic Storyline, The whole Deathly Hallows (Wont give anything away) mixed with Horcruxes was pretty cool, theres a lot more id talk about but i wont put spoilers out so soon, For those of you other members who have read the whole thing, what did you think

Overall, I thought it was fantastic. And that includes the epilogue, as well. A lot of people are hatin’ on how Rowling wrote that particular part….but whatever. Fits well, methinks. Most surprisingly, however, was the amount of humor in the book. There were more than a few times where I found myself bursting out laughing at some witty remark or another. My favorites:

    Highlight for spoilers:

    [Muriel, on Ron/Lovegood:]
“…and your hair’s much to long, Ronald, for a moment I thought you were Ginevra. Merlin’s beard, what is Xenophilius Lovegood wearing? He looks like an omelet.”

    Annnnnnd…

    [Snape, on killing Dumbledore:]
“Would you like me to do it now?” asked Snape, his voice heavy with irony. “Or would you like a few moments to compose an epitaph?”

    Among others. Great stuff.

My only real complaint lies in Lupin’s death. I mean COME ON. I was so pissed off when Rowling just off’d him like that. Out of nowhere. The only consolation is the fact that he’s finally back with his old friends—James and Lily, and Sirius as well [for whom I’d clung on to the tiny, small, relentless hope that he’d somehow come back one way or another, but, alas] —so now he can finally be happy. In death. How depressing is that? Granted, Tonks is with him…but still. You’d think after getting married and having a child that Rowling would cut him some slack and let him live, but no. He was one of her favorite character’s, for Chrissake.

*sigh* If anything, I’m glad she didn’t draw out the scene of his death—dramatizing and glossing over it. The shock and suddenness of it, and that it was only mentioned as part of the aftermath seems, well, fitting; it gives a peek at how the reality of war truly is. Memento Mori, and all that.

Anywho. That’s my …er, two cents.

I hated the ending. Not the epilogue, the ending.

It just got too weird, too contrived. And the epilogue capped it. So trite that I wanted to throw my book out the window.

Jk changed pace and location at the click of her fingers too often, it confused me and often I had to re-read parts because I kept thinking that I had missed something out.

Also the ending was too abrupt, Harry defeating Voldemort with the simple 'expelliarmus' oh come on JK and how exactly did Voldemorts killing curse backfire.. explanation please, because Voldy's death seemed too easy...

But a good read all in all. But you could of taken your time in the chapters instead of confusing us all....

I hated how she killed off Dobby. He's perhaps one of the greatest characters in the book, and literally saved their asses right there. Then she kills him with a fucking knife stab. Terrible, but I liked the touch of Harry manually digging his grave, then after that Griphook calls him weird for doing so. Speaking of him, I'm still laughing my ass off at him at how he got ripped off over the Gryffindor Sword by the Sorting Hat. Bwuhahaha, sucker. Ron figuring out to say 'open' in Parseltongue was quite interesting though. I didn't think it was possible, especially how he says he did it.

The whole Snape/Dumbledore setup. Wow. Seeing Snape's character, always cold-blooded to Harry, you kind of wouldn't imagine what really was the truth. But the history of him and Lily is quite the surprise. Kind of does explain why Petunia is so bitchy. This, tying in with Voldemort, is rather amusing. I can't believe Dumbledore and Snape managed to pull it off successfully and Voldemort's standing there like an idiot at the end. The whole consensual homicide of Dumbledore was genius, as it completely screwed Voldemort over, especially considering how Harry only disarmed Malfoy to gain ownership, making Voldemort completely shit himself, I'd say. Genius ploy.

Rowling's take on death is interesting though. The whole crying baby-like thing on the floor [which I presume would be Voldemort] was interesting. Although, if Harry actually died, then he came back to life, what does that make him currently? Just imagine their kids when he tells him he's died before and came back. Take that, Jesus. XD

I know, he seemed so proud too. XD

I love how afterwards Ron says something about freeing the house elves and Hermione kisses him on the spot. 'Is this the moment?'

I'll explain it in a bit more detail although I mentioned it in my previous post slightly. Even though Voldemort thought he had the full power of the Elder Wand because he killed Snape, who he thought was the last owner, he was wrong.

The ownership of the Elder Wand can be won two ways: kill or disarm. Draco had disarmed Dumbledore, who was the owner of the Elder Wand, before Snape had killed him. Therefore that made Draco the next true owner of the Elder Wand, even if Draco didn't have the wand in his possession, it was still true only to him.

When Harry and the rest were brought to the Malfoy house, Harry had disarmed Malfoy before Dobby had taken them away. Even though Draco didn't realise it at the time, since he or anyone else for that matter [this includes Voldemort] didn't know of the Elder wand, that made Harry the next true owner of the Elder Wand.

Even though Voldemort was in possession of the Elder Wand, he was not the true owner when battling Harry. That explains why when he first cast the Killing Curse on Harry, he did not truly die and was able to return [well, it could also have something to do with how Harry simply allowed himself to die, without putting up defence]. I think that also explains Neville's case and how he was able to break the bind. When Harry and Voldemort duelled in the end, Voldemort could not kill Harry with the Killing Curse as Voldemort was not the true owner of the Elder Wand, so he couldn't use it to it's prophecy of being able to defeat anyone. And I would assume Lily's blood protection that Voldemort inherited when taking Harry's blood at the graveyard in the last book.

    Did I miss anything? =P

Oh yeah, Snape really surprised me. Snape did it all for the love of Lily, so of course Harry would have to respect that greatly. I still can't believe Voldemort was absolutely clueless. Bwuhahahaha.

As for Neville, he *really* surprised me in this book, as wasn't he always the weak one? He really took a turn, and became the next leader, looking up to Harry. We should give him some love. XD

Oh, honestly. All this invisible text is killing my eyes. I'm going to be hypocritical now.

[not really spoilers] I loved the book. At first glance, I thought 'damnit, I'd hoped it was longer/bigger/thicker [insert giggles]', but I soon realised that the book was chock full of details, judging by the five hours it took me to finish it completely. I disliked how prat-like Draco was in this book, whimpering and saying 'I'm Draco! I'm on your side!' I adored the reappearance of old background characters, like Oliver Wood, Katie Bell etc. George and Fred.. <3 to them. I'll go into more detail tomorrow, right now my head is killing me.[/not really spoilers]

I've read up to page 165 now, only got the book today and I'm loving it.

The whole writing seems to have matured to me in some way... the grammar seems modernised too and Ron has become funny all of a sudden too.

My favourite Harry Potter book so far... might change my opinion when I finish it.

Oh, and I really appreciate the Invisible tags so you don't spoil anything guys! ;) Thanks.

He pulled the Gryffindor Sword out of the Sorting Hat. Only a true Gryffindor can do that.
