I have the old school model of the PS2 and lately (actually few months) it's been acting weird.

1.) DVD's don't work at all on it.
2.) PS2 games take awhile to load up.
3.) PS1 games don't work at all on it.
4.) Whenever the DVD or the PS1 games try to load, this weird ass grinding noise happens.

    Any help from you guys?

I hate to tell you. But get a new PS2. My first PS2 had all that happened and in a couple of weeks it died completely.

I've had some problems with my PS2 too, it didn't go so far as not playing certain games, but it did make weird grinding noises and it would freeze in the middle of games.

First of all try to put it in a cooler place or make sure it gets enough cold air in it's ventilation system.
Then you could open it up and grease the bars the eye slides over. I always have to do that during summer time when the grease gets too solid...

But this has been happening for like...months. The PS2 games still work, it just takes an extra minute to load on them.

To be honest I meant months. Sorry bout that. But yeah I waited it out just thinking that nothing was gonna happen, and that it was just old and yeah. Then I went to play a game I had just bought and it kept saying "Unable to read disc" so I took it back. I returned 2 games that night and then the 3rd one wouldn't work, but it was too late to go back. So then I went to play a different game and it said the same thing. I checked a few more games and go the same outcome. So then I realized that my PS2 was gone. :(

Do you ever get a red screen, by any chance?

damn how come this thread gets so much attention and not mine! anyways, it sounds similar to the problem that xbox 360's have when you lift it to make it stand vertical. to be honest, though, I have no clue. I have heard of PS2 disk drive errors that apparently made people have to get another one, so maybe that's your case also.

How can one give attention to something they cannot help? I'd help you if I could, but I can't, as I don't know.

ive had my PS2 since they first came out, and it has never had a problem at all, it still runs smooth as the day we got it, and as much as we move it around the house im surprised, but now its in the basement so maybe thats whats keeping it alive

No, I don't. Whenever it tries to read DVD's...either it starts making this grinding noise and it won't start or whenever you put it in, the "Reading disc" motion disappears and nothing else happens.

Sounds too confusing for me what you said.

I've actually seen some YT videos on it and it looks easy, but me knowing me, i'd fuck it up the first chance I got.

that reminds me of a time when we had to open up my NES to replace the pin connector and I'm sitting there watch my dad do it and there was this loud noise, like plastic cracking and I'm like "dad, what the hell was that?" and he's like "nothing, nothing!". it works great now though. the blinking light problem on all the NESs nowadays can be fixed by buying a new pin connector off ebay. I got the connector and some special cleaning fluid and "nintendo security key" (a tool used to open the game cartridges, they use special screws) for $20. I know that has nothing to do with helping you, I just like telling the story.

I had the same problem...I bought an Xbox. :p

 But seriously, I did have a similar problem and it ended up being a laser issue. Sometimes it can be corrected by buying a "cd wizard" (a disc you put into the player to realign the laser). Could be at a local electronics store. But I eventually had to get a replacement laser/optical lens.

Hah, okay. Guess the modchip is at blame for my similar issue.

If you get to the point where you're taking it apart, clean the rails the laser is on and re grease them. That sometimes helps.
