Hi guys ! Can I make a new thread here where I'll put the question and you answer it ? It's not funny question , it's true and I hope you can gain your knowledge too welcome guys ... My first question : Why is something useless and expensive called a "white elephant"? Welcome guys
"A white elephant is a supposedly valuable possession whose upkeep exceeds its usefulness, and it is therefore a liability. The term derives from the sacred white elephants kept by traditional Southeast Asian monarchs in Burma, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia." Source: Wikipedia Yes, yes I know
OK Here is the answer for my question : The term "white elephant" comes from ancient Siam, where no one but the king could own a rare and sacred albino, or white, elephant without royal consent. The cost of keeping any elephant, white or otherwise, was tremendous, and so when the king found displeasure with someone he would make him a gift of a white elephant, and because the animal was sacred and couldn't be put to work, the cost of its upkeep would ruin its new owner. So the next question : Where did the word "assassin" come from?
I like your idea of questions and answers. It came from a guy named Hassan who founded a religious order in the XIth century. His followers were drugged fighters and were called haschaschins because they ate hascisch. After that it became assassin.
Yes , Gitsnik You're right We can have the full answer like this : While mounting a jihad against the invading Christian Crusaders in the 1300s, Hassan ben Sabah controlled his command of radical killers with a potion that gave them dreams of an eternity in a garden where young women pleased them to their heart's content. The potion was from hashish, and these young killers became known as hashish eaters, which in Arabic is hashashin, or as the Crusaders pronounced it, "assassin." Thanks Mr Puffy and Gitsnik for your attention to this topic My next question "Why do we have piggy banks instead of bunny banks or kitty banks?" That's funny right Try your best guys Welcome !!!
Because someone made a mistake. During The Middle Ages, in about the fifteenth century, metal was expensive so dishes and pots were made of a clay called pygg. Whenever housewives could save an extra coin, they dropped it into one of their clay jars. They called this their pygg bank or their piggy bank.
So basically this is an ''ask a question, get somebody to find the answer on Wikipedia for you thread.'' Question: Why can Edward Eleric (from the anime series Full Metal Alchemist) perform alchemy without drawing a transmutation circle?
I don't even need to look at Wiki for this one. I've read too much FMA. When Ed claps his hands together, his body basically BECOMES the transmutation circle.
Ahhh finally somebody else who likes FMA ! I take it you know what my names means then? Well your answer is sorta right but not fully correct. Hint: What did he see?
The Gate of Truth, duh. In reality though, that's a question of HOW he can do it and not WHY. The Gate gave him the knowledge of alchemy which of course showed him how to transmutate without the circle, but my answer was the WHY, as in the technique and such. If I don't make sense, it's cause I'm tired. That reminds me of a Star Trek conversation I once had with a friend: Friend: "Wow, we're talking about Star Trek. We're nerds." Me: "But we're not full nerds. What we lack in nerdiness we make up for with lives." Friend: "...Equivalent Exchange."
