As of this moment, I would also agree.

Although it might grow on me.

    TOO MANY BALLADS!

Sadly, But expectedly, I'm also inclined to agree. LP has a heavier, darker potential that they threw out the window for Rick Rubin's another attempt at a Grammy award. Another band gone mainstream, Sold out, Whatever you want to call it.

I have to agree too..the songs are too slow (with a few exceptions)..I don't understand how they could put so many ballads on one album..

I am not going to say they sold out. LP was always commercial as hell. And I do think they overdid the ballads, but they are still good ballads, even if there are too many of them.

I like soft songs too. I also wish they didn't have so poor lyrics on the harder songs.

Oh and I'd give it 3.5K's if that's allowed.

Too many ballads ?? Perhaps..... Band have to evolve, and a band who sold over 20 Million WW with their first album is bound to be pulled in many inspirational directions but the mainstream. But like many before them, will always return to their roots. Hybrid Theory & Meteora is LP in a nutshell. Minutes to Midnight has a few massive tracks. I saw LP in London last night. Short, intimate gig, but one hell of a show. All the old tracks with a few new ones added in. Chester was on fire. They clearly love the old stuff. You cant take the LP out of LP.

Funeral For A Friend got 5/5 from Kerrang :D

I'm holding judgment until the 15th, but I kind of trust some of your judgment.

And wow Friskey, what a sig.

Rick Rubin is known for thinking outside the box. I don't think he needs another Grammy, or wants one.

LP came to him looking for direction, and he delivered.

*sigh* this is looking like Meteora all over again.

"It's all Don Gilmore's fault blablabla"

    "It's all Rick Rubin's fault!"

Come on people: it's Rick or Don, take your pick. I'll take Rick, at least he was able to CHANGE the LP sound and get some good tracks out of it.

Don't try to say they weren't mainstream already.

I'd take Rick as well, I'll admit that I haven't listened to all of the album yet because I want to save the majority for release but from what I can tell at least it's not over-polished soulless crap like most of Meteora. I'd agree with the Kerrang! score but not what was actually said. I think it'll grow on me and actually last instead of being bubblegum music that I'll listen to about twice then hate.

It's funny how many people who don't seem to be regular fans of heavy music are complaining about the lack of harder songs.

I agree with Kerrangs review. Its an average album. If it was balanced out with 3 more heavier tracks i think this album could have been realy great. I love ballads but not an album practically full of them.

I never complained about Meteora, Actually, I was surprised people did when i first started reading these forums.

Better than Meteora? Maybe so. But this is not better than most Top 40 albums right now. Maybe I'm wrong, I really don't know. I just can't help but to feel disappointed. Serves me right, Hype never lives up to itself.

Kerrang! is a rock magazine, right? Thats probably why they don't like Mike's rapping.

the band is undergoing a painful transistion of genres, its only natural that the numetal fans would get pissed and people would tell them how "soldout" they are.

the guy who wrote the review should probbably think twice about mike's ability to rap. he should have attacked the weak lyrics on the harder songs, not compare mike to some 50cent clone.that's just cruel.

What they should have done was to increase the number of heavy tracks like No More Sorrow with better lyrics. The way I see it, No More Sorrow is the best song on the album.
    Anyway, my ratings:
Wake:One of my favorites, only music 4/5
Given Up:Awesome music, but lyrics are so-so 4/5
Leave out All the Rest: Probably the best ballad on the album 4/5
Bleed it Out: Another one of my favorites 5/5
Shadow of the Day: Another Ballad 3/5
What I've Done: One of the (better?) tracks on the album 4/5
Hands Held High: Awesome one, Shinoda's rapping is legendary 5/5
No More Sorrow: One of the best ones on the album 5/5
    Valentine's Day:.... 2/5
In Between: Only Mike here 4/5
    In Pieces: Another ballad 3/5
The Little things give you Away: I can't make up my mind on this one, but oh well... 4/5
So, the whole album in my opinion is like 3.9/5.

Just remember that there are 2 bonus tracks to be released on iTunes, and I sure hope they aren't ballads!

Shouldn't we all wait to judge until the whole album drops?
A song gets a totally different feeling, when you can hear it entirely.
Or did you already download the full album?

I'm getting more and more antsy to just listen to the download (still have it pre-ordered through 2 locations AND am going to buy it May 14th at midnight), but honestly guys. I would not hold my breath on the iTunes exclusives being anything new. What sets it off is that the exclusives are just called "Secret Exclusive iTunes tracks" which garners people's interest to pre-order through them instead of other conventional ways. I mean Disturbed's pre-order listed the actual title of their bonus iTunes track, same with a couple other pre-orders i've seen. My guess is they will be 2 live tracks. MAYBE, just MAYBE, a full/mixed studio version of QWERTY, but I hope i'm wrong; 2 new tracks on top of a new CD would be great.

After listening to the album, a 3/5 rating is definitely justified. No more, no less, imo.

Don't assume others like it just because it's Linkin Park. I don't care if Linkin Park made it or Vanilla Ice. I like it either way.
