Percides, we invented the game, different countries just changed the name for some reason. In most of the world you'll find it's know as football though. It's just that countries who more commonly refer to it as soccer aren't big footballing nations i.e. America, Asia etc.

 

Foot-to-ball action just sounds painful.

I don't even know what we'd call football if we called soccer football. Dudes-in-pads-smashing-each-other-ball.
