Pure guess, but could you try throwing in the install disk, and repairing [...or wait, can you still do that with Vista, as you could in XP?]

Hmm, what does the folder you're trying to view contain? Videos, perhaps?

the only issue i see with vista is that it shouldn't have been released in its current state or at all. MS needed to totally rethink everyrthing they are doing. lets face, you need a brand new computer with extremely good hardware to run Vista for it's true intentions.

Yeah, that doesn't mean they shouldn't have released it. This happens all the time when a new OS is released, its going to take some time for everyone to get settled with it. XP was way worse. And I don't know what you mean about it not being released in it's current state, it's perfectly stable, there's just a lack of drivers from many hardware vendors. I'd have Vista installed if Nvidia would fix the openGL and SLi issues with their drivers.

The initial year is like an uber-public beta test, honestly.

    Hi guys....this my 1st post:rolleyes:

    i wish it will help

the same proplem happend to me and it was driving me crazy  , but i finally found that if i turned off "Thumbnail View" in explorer, it will not crash anymore...and the reason i think that some of the video files that i have in My Documents folder are damaged or too old version that is not compatiable with the installed Video Codecs.

tell us if it worked ^_^

You can do this in My Documnets by selecting "View" then "Icons".

If explorer crashes once you open My Documnets then, try this:
    - from My Computer go to C:\ drive.
    - right click Documents And Settings and click properties then Customize then choose from the drop-down list "Documents(for any file type)",...if it is already selected select something else then select it back.
    - check "Also apply this template to all sub-folders"
    - click Apply

    peace!!

See, I was thinking it was the thumbnail codec issue too, but he then said any folder when I asked if the folder contained videos.

To add onto lparabia's post, I would also go into folder options [same place as it was in XP, press alt to unhide it] and under the view tab check "Always show icons, never thumbnails".

I'm not 100% on this solution, but if it is indeed the codec issue, then I'm kinda disappointed it hasn't been fixed in Vista, as it's also an XP issue.

Yeah, I didn't think that was your problem really, but just had to make sure. Apart from that, I haven't a clue.
