As I was using my iPod for about 35 minutes straight today, it froze during a song. I know how to reset it but when I went to reset it, it didn't do anything. My iPod won't turn off and it's really pissing me off because I received this iPod as a Christmas gift and if it turned out to be a waste of $249, then my dad is gonna flip...and so will I.

I originally thought it froze because it was low on battery, which it is. It's confusing me because when I hooked it up to my computer to charge it, nothing happened. No "do not disconnect" screen or anything. My iPod didn't show up in iTunes either. So I really don't get it.

I've been browsing around the tech support on apple.com and nothing really is helping. Someone please help.

The battery level is probably too low for it to respond. Just keep it hooked up for a few hours. Sometimes it takes mine up to an hour to to respond if I've really run it down.

This is advice I give everybody. It's been known to work.

Keep trying to reset. Try multiple times. If it doesn't work, give the iPod a nice whack. Don't chuck it at the ground, just hit with the palm of your hand on its side. Try to reset it then.

If it resets, but it comes up with a folder and an exclamation mark, hit it again and reset it. It should eventually come to work.

If not, I dunno what to tell you.

Just be deadly careful about how hard you whack it, as if you whack it too hard, more than intended will happen. Keep this as last resort though, lol.

Amanda's got it pretty much right; just keep it plugged in for a while, then try to reset every hour or so.

NO! Don't "whack" it on a table! Such a suggestion is stupid, and that's why IPod's don't last long cause of stupid shit like that. I hope you guys don't take care of your other expensive items like that.

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705

This website has helped every time my IPod has frozen. I haven't had to 'whack it on a table' yet. When you do these steps, make sure to wait a few moments before trying the next choice as IPods are slow to restart. If you did it right, the screen will cut out for a second and then you'll see the apple logo. Make sure you have it plugged into the PC as you do this so it at least has some power to restart. You'll most likely see a monochromatic battery icon cause the ipod doesn't have enough power to say 'do not disconnect' yet. Then out of nowhere ITunes will auto launch (if you have it set to do that) and the Ipod will spring to life.

If you get it restarted, I'd suggest recharging it whenever you see the battery icon turn 'red' for now on, as that usually means its about to die.

I said "with the palm of your hand".

It'd be ridiculous to hit it on the table.

    Ok, update time:

I swear I did the whole press the click wheel + menu button 3 times. Nothing worked there. I just did it again and it reset. Now it's displaying the "do not disconnect" screen and is charging the battery.

Sweet lord. That pissed me off. I guess iPods are very sensitive?

So anyway, it's fixed now. Thanks for all the suggestions/help. :)

    Glad to hear it's fixed.

Remember: a nice, hard whack keeps an iPod intact!

But, remember this also: Too hard of hit makes an iPod shit!

Noo, don't whack it hard. >_< If you have to, the most you should do is just gave it a little tap, otherwise you'll seriously fuck up the hard drive.

If it happens again, and resetting it doesn't work, call Apple, providing it's still under warranty...

For the love of God, I'm not saying you should chuck and break the damn thing!

I'm gonna put a video on youtube someday about how hard you hit it. It's not as hard as it sounds.

    *sigh* Christ...
