This is basically a rip off of 'The Official Metal Thread'(sorry, Testament), but I had to do it. Right now, I've mostly been listening to The Clash, but also a bit of Rise Against, Minor Threat, and The Weakerthans(I know their not real punk, but they still rule).
If this doesnt turn into "OMFG STFU green day r real punks who r the clash??? wtf???" i'll be deeply surprised. I love the clash, thats about it for real punk
I love the Clash, all though I started listening to them for all the wrong reasons (favorite actor liked them, haha). But they are amazing, even though the only albumn (well, DVD) of their's I've actually bought is The Essential Clash (it's India! Noone's even heard of them). I like the old greenday (Dookie, Insomniac, 1039/smoothed out slappy hours, Kerplunk)- if you consider that punk. Rancid and the Sex Pistols are pretty cool too (what I'be heard of them, anyway- I've heard a handful of the Sex Pistols songs, and ...And Out Came the Wolves- the entire album). I'll be downloading more of them soon, anyway. Will the Offspring be considered punk?
The Bronx are good, but they seem to be in a gradual transition between hardcore and just rock. Other punk I like: Dead Kennedys, Refused, Fugazi, and Snapcase seem pretty decent as well.
i really don't think the ramones, and the clash, and the sex pistols aren't really punk im my opinon. i'm a big fan of gang of four and the fall though. black flag and at the drive-in are pretty cool too.
Oh man. Currently having a love affair with Circle Jerks, Black Flag, The Misfits, and Snapcase. Still love the Dead Kennedys, Assorted Jelly Beans, Mojo Nixon, Crass, Oi Polloi...the list goes on forever. I'm also into post punk like Joy Division.
Oh, come on. Are you actually being serious? The ramones, the clash and the sex pistols aren't punk? Jesus Christ. This is just too stupid to comment on, Franny. ____ On topic, I like the ramones, the clash, the sex pistols all the older punk music. But I'm more into punk rock, though.
This thread was pretty much made for me. I think the line between what's punk and what isn't punk has become very blurred over time. That having been said, I love any punk rock that doesn't try too hard to fall into a category. Here's a list of my favorite bands who often get the "punk" label tacked onto them: The Bouncing Souls Flogging Molly The World/Inferno Friendship Society River City Rebels Street Dogs The Clash (shutupfrannyidontcare<3) Blood Or Whiskey The Tossers Rancid Gogol Bordello Social Distortion Streetlight Manifesto (ska can have punk influences) The Vandals Yeah, I could pretty much go on for ever. This is by far my favorite genre of music. Nah, it's not really that stupid. Every genre is up to interpretation. The Ramones and the Sex Pistols really aren't all they're made out to be, anyway. The Clash, in my opinion, are so much more. Way more than the "punk" label can define.
well i'm sorry that i think punk is something that doesn't sound the same as everything out there during that time period. i think fela kuti or eastern youth were more punk the ramones. i think punk is more than 4/4 time signatures, 2 minute songs, and loud simple bass lines. but you can have your opinons on what is punk and what is not. this has been a debate that has not been resolved in over 30 years. all i know is that i'd rather pull out my sunshine, circle takes the square or black flag 7" records instead of a ramones record.
My favorite punk bands are: The Misfits The Ramones Black Flag Sex Pistols Osaka Popstar Balzac The Clash Mad Sin Calebrese Dropkick Murpheys Sum 41 For my favorite Hardcore bands: Hatebreed Slapstick Sick Of It All Madball Blood For Blood Death Before Dishonor Bury Your Dead 100 Demons Throwdown Full Blown Chaos
it wasn't that bad, but that's when jerry only started marketing the band for money and not letting it die, so it was kinda annoying.
Thrice is punk right?...I like them a lot (never really pay attention to what bands are labeled as...don't really care either...)
Thrice has some songs that resemble punk, but after Vheissu, I'm not entirely sure what to call them. As far as "punk" goes, old Green Day (Dookie is one of the best albums ever made), Flogging Molly, sort of Rise Against and Alkaline Trio. Clash, Ramones, Dropkick Murphys and the Sex Pistols outside of that.
I love both eras. I'm just wondering what their next CD that comes out next year will sound like. Jerry Only said it's going to be like Earth A.D.
