well..my brother is really stupid, hes paranoid and stuck on the fact that Windows Internet Explorer is the BEST, because i got Firefox and see how much more better it is than IE, he wants to remove it and get IE back, is there any way to like..protect a program from being uninstalled?
Make him a standard user. Without admin privledges, he shouldn't be able to uninstall Firefox, nor even use IE. Upgrade to IE7, then change the permissions of C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer to deny any access to it, so he can't run IE, forcing him to use Firefox. (let's just hope he's not smart enough to figure out that you can use Windows Explorer (as in the file browser) to browse the internet, as it uses the IE core. If that doesn't help, lemme know and I'll try to think of something else based on what he does.
well, i would revoke his user admin but hes 17..and stuck up, ive done this before, next thing i know he gets on my moms user(she flames if shes not a admin) and deletes all my programs and my user account..soo i try to not piss him off anymore, just keep him off the computer mostly, but i found a peaceful solution..i changed default browser back to IE7 for him so he can use that, while i use firefox by just clicking on my icon of it..it works i guess as long as he doesnt mess up his own settings, but when he gets us a virus il be like.....shoulda used firefox...noob
Eh, what you could do, if he HAS to use IE, is install Spybot: Search and Destroy. That'll install a program called Teatimer which protects the IE settings, so he can't fuck with anything. There is also a possibility that you could restrict him though the group policy editor (assuming you're on XP Pro [Home doesn't have this]; start > run > gpedit.msc ). I'm not quite sure what could help in there, but it's possible. Kinda hard to restrict an admin, if you know what I mean...
lol yeah, well not runnin on pro, runnin on home, so, yeah i have spybot search and destroy, so far its fine with him usin that and me usin FireFox
now i gotta work on gettin rid of winfixer, i found a site that has all the steps to get rid of it, it involves using like 10 programs such as spybot search and destroy, ad-aware, few scanners, and a buncha other programs..il try it tomorrow
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WinFixer#Removing_WinFixer I'm going to guess you probably already read that. Perhaps NOD32? Good luck with it, I hate those kind of programs. *mutters*
