Cold and Staind are probably the most depressing bands out there but maybe these can help too:
Yellowcard (can be depressing for me...)
K's Choice (Belgian band, maybe some people know them)
Eric Carmen - All By Myself (now that's a pretty depressing song, to me at least)

Some other slow sad songs but I can't really remember...

While that doesn't apply to me, you have a valid point there.

And it's not necessarily the message behind the song I was talking about, it's a slow moody ballad. It can easily be interpreted as depressing.

A Perfect Circle's version of Imagine. How to turn a "Peace and Love" song into a dark, pessimistic one.

omg, I listen to my Sad Bastard Music all the time.

Anything by Elliott Smith. His tunes almost sound light hearted, but they're about some heavy stuff.

"Miss Misery" is just amazing. I suggest that first. then maybe on to the Either/Or album.

Damien Rice is great. He can be very depressing, or political...which can be depressing as well.

"Cheers Darlin' " is great if you're having relationship problems. lol and the music is so deep.
    "9 crimes" is good too.

Thos two are so great though. I love them so very much.
