I just scanned my computer with Hitman Pro (2.5.2.2), which is sort of a collection of scanners in one program, and it was scanning with Spyware Doctor. That said I had quite a lot virusses on my computer but it couldn't fix them without being registered.

So now I'm asking what are the best virusscanners that I can use (possible by downloading them) for free ?

I would really help me if some people had suggestions.

Not Norton. Avoid Norton like the plague.

    Ditto McAfee.

I use AVG Free edition, does the trick for me.

I've got AVG, but I'll try to scan with that. I normally just used it as a "instantscanners" thing... Thanks.

    Any other suggestions?

My suggestion, get rid of 'spyware doctor'

Goto lavasoft.com and download AdAware personal edition. It's free, and the best.

Adware is also inclubed in Hitman Pro so it kind of uses them both and some others too.

I'll see if I can get OSX as fast as I can because two people have suggested that already. :p

Man, this topic is such a laugh. Cringing, but rather hilarious.

McAfee is no better. Trust me.

Maybe a little better in the 'more bugs than a roach motel' department, but a disgusting 500-pound gorilla when it comes to needlessly wasting system resources >_<

OSX Indeed! Not only does it prevent all conventional viruses from running, it also prevents all conventional software from running. Unless you need to edit a video or transfer music to an iPod.

it was free nd it wasnt slowing the computer down as much as norton, if im offline i just turn the damned thing off, then it becomes the uni network problem when the whole bloody thing crashes

My conclusion out of all of this is that no one knows what the best virusscanner is so no one actually scans for virusses anymore and just reformats their computers ever 3 years or so... :p

Damnit sorry. Try AVG Free. I've been using it for years and it's saved my ass MANY times. http:\\free.grisoft.com
