I was just thinking today and as much as I like qwerty, I'm afraid that by going towards this rockier sound they're going to get rid of some of their more clever riffs (Points of Authority springs to mind) and instead stay with riffs that remind us of every other band in the planet. Also..a harder sound leaves less room for them to 'break out' and use instruments we've never heard before (i.e. Nobody's Listening) or really add a lot of atmosphere to their songs. What do you guys think? Do you share the same fear? Right now Qwerty reminds me of if Limp Bizkit had an orgy with Pantera/Metallica and every death metal band in the planet. To me it barely sounds like Linkin Park anymore. Great song..I'm just afraid LP could lose their identity on this album.
It's just one song, Derek. You were so ecstatic about this new sound Linkin Park has and now it seems you are not, lol. I'm not worried. It's just one song and basing everything on what we heard from QWERTY seems stupid to me since there are many other songs to follow. I'm sure they know what they are doing. Also, they are taking a risk with their supposed "new sound". Would you like listening to a band who doesn't take risks to try to improve their sound? Since the song was live, live versions tend to sound heavier than on a cd. You should know that.
Mike did say that they're not focusing so much on making the songs intricate like they used to. Rick Rubin has them focusing more on the vocals and if the music and the vocals fit and it sounds good, leave it at that. Before, it seemed like they would re-work everything over and over again until they came up with a really complex instrumental with not-so impressive lyrics or vocals. I'd rather they focus on the vocals, because to me, this song sounds a lot better than most anything that came out of Meteora. However, I doubt the whole CD is going to be like this song. It'll no doubt be good though. I don't think they're going to mash themselves in with the rest of the music world.
Who cares about new instruments? You can have heavier guitars like this and throw in a piano or orchestra like they have before, and it'll sound epic if done right. I'll pass on the japanese flutes. Stick to being a rock band, first and foremost. Needs more cowbell, though.
Ok...mostly everyone wanted a heavier sound. Anyway, like I said before, it's only one song. We'll see how it all plays out once the new album comes out...or leaks, rather.
well some1 said before you kno they might do a heavy record now? but like who knows what the 4th album might be...it could b a the soft side of linkin park and then the 5th album will be like the techno/metal of linkin park! they can basically make any sound they want if they put their minds 2 it they could make any type of record...
after listening to their whole show i was glad to see that Joe was using new sounds. That's one thing i'm looking forward to. Mabye the same style but just new sounds.
I was kind of thinking the same thing after hearing it. It's amazing but an album full of these kind of songs isn't what I was hoping for. I didn't hear Mr. Hahn on this song and that was kinda dissapointing.
Yea this song really doesn't seperate Linkin Park from other bands, but at the same time it is new for them as a band. The first time I heard it, I was not thinking 'OH MY GOD THIS IS GOD SENT!' I was thinking what Derek was saying, I hope Linkin Park don't lose their identity. I personally love the atmospheric, melodic LP songs. I really am fearing that they could sound like every other band, but at the same time I know Mike wouldn't let that happen. I dunno I just really want this new album so I can sleep easier lol.
I'm not worried whatsoever, I'll start worrying when I hear the album and I think it's shit (highly unlikely to happen though)
I agree a bit with Derek. QWERTY was interesting, and definitely different coming from Linkin Park, but I am also afraid that they're going to lose the Linkin Park sound we know completely. QWERTY was heavy, and it sounded like Metal, not like Linkin Park. Linkin Park does need to change, but I don't want them to make it so drastic. Hopefully, it's just QWERTY, but if they go completely metal like that, I don't know what to say about them.
I don't see any Pantera anywhere near this orgy. QWERTY's opening sounded a little bit like something off of Slayer's new album. and I'm happy there's actual riffs in the songs now.
I hope they don't turn out like Slipknot, thats all we need another talentless band filled with white people screaming in mics.
Doesn't Mr. Hahn make that weird sound during the rapping verses? But yea, other than that he appears nonexistant. Definitely disappointing.
