Julien Baker - Turn Out The Lights
This artist is fantastic. Her newest album Turn Out The Lights talks about anxiety, depression, loneliness, all things she seems to struggle with and manages to channel those feeling perfectly into her music with an amazing voice, solid guitar play, well used pianos and even some great strings arrangements. The title track is probably her best effort since she explores all the elements in her music quite well and still manages to make her sound and voice bigger with some lines that have more staying power than it would be expected for a folk artist with mostly depressing lyrics, even giving some hints of hope in this record, but I don't see her stepping away from her sadness and melancholy, I think happy music is not for her. Most songs may sound the same, but she doesn't have room for experimentation since she has her style well defined and her lyrics revolve around the same topics, but just in different perspectives.
