They should drop all their HT and Meteora songs for their upcoming tour.. Make more room for OML tracks to debut live.
They're in too deep now. They're actually more likely to go the entire OML cycle without playing any OML songs
I miss those days when LP played faithfully all the songs from every album cycle. we have 10 songs only for OML, it would be impossible if they don't play all these songs rotating all throughout their sets.
I feel that they used to design the live shows around the album they were promoting. If you watch footage of a "Meteora"-ear show, you clearly see a "Meteora" show in the way that it's presented. If you went to an "A Thousand Suns" show, it was very thoroughly an "A Thousand Suns"-themed live show in the same ways, like an extension of the album. In this respect, I don't think they put quite as much effort into the "Living Things" and "Hunting Party" live shows.
I hope OML will have that kind of unique live experience since this their more personal record, putting more effort in the live shows will be totally amazing.
Maybe Mike are gonna play more OML stuff in his FORT MINOR set. save the Generic LP set for IN THE END & NUMB.
This makes sense. THP was a heavy alt-metal album, but the set was futuristic, which reflected the set - the concerts were largely a mix of genres, from EDM (Castle of Glass, ALTNC), electronic rock (Blackout, Robot Boy, LT stuff) and hip hop (Mike's set), so I think the sets reflected this. I wish they'd at least take a page from Coldplay and have most of their shows based off both their latest album and songs from the album before that haven't been promoted much. Sure, a lot of their fans are pissed that only 1/4 of their sets are songs from their first 4 albums (and their old hits are moved to the beginning or middle of their shows), but at least they're really performing songs from the album they're promoting. It's only their recent tour which they have fan requests that they're playing a lot of old hit singles and deep cuts. Imagine how amazing would it have been if they mixed the heavy THP music with the electronic styles of ATS and LT? They were close with that with the ATS tour when the shows were mostly ATS and M2M music, and only the 4 singles of HT and a couple of Meteora songs made it in to make it extremely diverse. At least Coldplay only have a handful of songs that they haven't performed live. One half of each of LP's past two albums have not even been played yet. Although how cool would it be if they include it in future tours like Robot Boy in the THP tour? That would be incredible to be honest.
If they had come to my city for THP, I would seriously have considered not going since it would have been essentially the same show I saw in 2013 but with "Final Masquerade", "Until It's Gone", an electro-house drop for "Castle" and a rap medley added. Not enough fresh elements at all. Luckily, they didn't bother coming.
I get why people are always critical of the setlists, but I've never thought it was that big of a deal. If I end up at the show, I'm gonna have tons of fun no matter what they play, and so will most of the audience. As far as playing newer stuff to make people aware it exists, I feel like most people at the concert will either be in the "that's nice, but I grew up on HT/Meteora", or the couple of songs like WFTE, Blackout instrumental, etc. will probably be new to them as well. Only a small percentage actually knows every song they play in comparison to everyone that attends these shows.
I'm all for them playing a set which takes from the whole discography, but, at the "A Thousand Suns" shows, they still managed that while also playing 90% of the album. Same with every tour cycle before that. I'd like to see the band start doing that again with the set. Most people who turn up to the show don't like the band's music anyway, and I actually find it hard to believe that they genuinely enjoy performing "Numb" every night. If I buy the new album and I like it enough to go and see a show, I'd hope that the show isn't "Hybrid Theory" and "Meteora" from front to back. To me, it's incongruent with how daring they can be in the studio making their albums.
Exactly. A lot of people act like it's impossible to actually play your new album while still keeping the hits in the set. Linkin Park have, what, maybe 7 songs that they "have to" play every night? That still leaves loads of room for the new album. There's no reason why the band couldn't have played a set like this for The Hunting Party's tour: Drawbar Guilty All The Same All For Nothing Papercut Lying From You (The Summoning) War Blackout Castle of Glass Ballad Medley Final Masquerade In My Remains What I've Done One Step Closer Rebellion Waiting For The End Numb --- Until It's Gone In The End Bleed It Out There's a 19 song set (which is pretty standard for LP) with every big hit (except for Burn It Down, I guess, but you could sub that in for In My Remains if you want), while still playing every song off the new album bar four. And even with that, there's still space for rarities like Blackout, Lying from You and In My Remains. Of course, you're not going to please everyone, but there's no reason why they still need to play songs like Runaway and Given Up every night. No other band I know still plays 5 songs from their debut album every night, 6-7 albums into their career.
I think Mike said that GATS was too hard on Brad and Rob ... it might have been during the podcast we did with him. As for UIG ... too boring to play?
By the end of the cycle, they only had, like, 4 songs from "The Hunting Party" in the sets for a tour promoting "The Hunting Party". During "Living Things", they at least performed about half the album.
Actually, IIRC by 2015 (not sure exactly when though) they were down to just ALITS and Rebellion. At that point, what's the point in calling it "The Hunting Party Tour"? The most they ever played in any one show was 5 (GATS, Wastelands, UIG, Rebellion, and FM), which isn't too bad, but they still ended up only playing 6/12 of the album's tracks live (I guess 6/11 if you don't consider The Summoning a real track), which is just... terrible.
eh, pretty standard for bands nowdays i guess. F.e. Rise Against played 3(!!!) songs from The Black Market since the release.
