They don't play those songs live because they realize those two songs are the worst songs they have ever made

    Oh shit.
(Eh, I could think of two worse - but they happen to be on the same album... well a lot of them are on the same album...)

Not gonna lie, those are two songs that I tend to skip over when I listen to THP. Although I must admit, both songs are amazing songs to run to.

Agreed with this. The first half of that record is easily the worst music they have made in my opinion.

However, I think starting at Rebellion to the end it's the best music they have ever made. I have a weird relationship with the album.

Like Linkin Park should never ever ever attempt Punk again.

Like that song is maybe is a 3/10 at BEST. Like I couldn't believe my ears when I heard it.

There are songs that I totally don't like on every LP album

There's really only a small handful of LP songs that I personally think are good.

In no order I could see a set list like this:

In The End/Papercut/One Step Closer/Crawling/With You
    Numb/Faint
    Given Up/What I've Done/Bleed It Out
    New Divide
Ballad Medley mabye (I hope they retire it though)
    Waiting For the End
    Castle of Glass/Burn It Down
    Rebellion (maybe)/ Final Masquerade
    *Insert 5 new songs here*

I know this is often a hipster opinion but I like every song on their first 3 albums. Yes, even Meteora.

    HT- I like all songs
    Meteora- I Like all songs
    MTM- I like all songs
ATS- I like all "songs" but Robot Boy
LT- I like all songs but Until It Breaks
THP- Only like Rebellion to the end......

Yeeeah but its all accessible radio friendly music. Not exactly risky.

When I think of pop I think of CHVRCHES mainly because they are now my second favorite band of all time.

But as we know Shinoda would never go down that route :kappa:

    Well, yeah, nope. Just no.

Oh well, opinions I guess. I think I can safely say they must consider Runaway/Easier To Run or the likes their worst songs though

When you're dealing with Linkin Park's fans, everything is risky for the band.

Given the diversity of the bands albums, what do they consider risky at this point?

I think "risky" needs to be contextualized.

Is it risky to make pop music? Of course not. Is it risky to make your first ever pop record, coming off of (arguably) the hardest record you've ever released? I'd say yes. Risky in what sense? Not in the sense that casual fans and radio enthusiasts will find it risky, no. Instead, the decision to go pop will piss off a massive portion of the fanbase.

There are so many LP fans out there who seem to regard LP as the anti-bieber; an opposition to pop and, furthermore, pop-rock. These people will absolutely hate the new record. Additionally, anyone who bought into Mike's rhetoric about being a carnivore and bringing back hard rock will be alienated and pissed off with the new sound.

So it actually is risky in a Linkin Park-specific way.

Oh, come on. A pop record might not be risky for Taylor Swift, but it is for a band like Linkin Park. If it flops, you are going to have bad sales and a very disappointed fanbase. Because even 14 years after Meteora, the average Linkin Park fan is not a pop music fan (even though Meteora itself was kind of poppish).

Don't believe me? Look at ATS. It took all the shit in the world because it was soft. No, not the Top 20 type of soft, just softer than anything the band had put out at that point. The core fans seem to mostly love it as an album, while most of the other people are pretty vocal about thinking it was the time Linkin Park completely lost it. And that was a fucking experimental non-radio friendly record. Imagine them doing Top 20 music. The fanbase is going to explode. Because Linkin Park is not Taylor Swift and fans don't expect them to sound like today's most mainstream acts.

I'm not writing this because I agree with everything Mike says. The interviews before LT pointed to much less experimentation and that wasn't what I wanted to hear. The interviews before THP were rude and hypocritical and it was obvious that a random rock record from a band far from their prime (in terms of sales) wouldn't do much to save rock music. I just agree with him this time. And I am not saying it's going to be a good record, only time will tell. But a full-blown pop album by a band like Linkin Park is not playing it safe.

If I may ask, why are you on this forum if you only like a small portion of what they do? I thought every one here was/were die-hard LP fans.

I have an overwhelming feeling this album will be exactly what we need after the last two....

It's going to piss off a portion of the fan base but like ATS, it might be that album for the strong fan base ie, us...
But I'm thinking at the same time, albeit, risky, they're making it for commercial success as well so it might reflect well on all facets. I just have a really good feeling about what's to come.

Haven't seen this much skepticism from the LP fanbase since ATS. The band must be doing something right.
