The Internet's Busiest Music Nerd has something to say. As for Gibs' "City" recommendation... That album was the only album I've ever listened to that I said "this is too heavy". I've gotten somewhat used to it but it's still fucking ridiculous. EDIT: Deafheaven is actually a great band for beginning to get into black metal. Very pretty yet still heavy as fuck. But they're not TRV KVLT.
Thanks everyone! I don't know most of the bands that you listed, Gibs, so I really do appreciate the effort you put into those recommendations and in making that post. Filip, I listen to Deafheaven and like them. I don't really think of them as metal, for some reason, but I love their albums.
Two classic old-school choices: Nile (Egyptian themed classic Death metal) Probably one of the fastest Death Metal bands ever https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL6F6E77F0632A1E7F Suffocation (the godfathers of oldschool Brutal Death Metal) This is their classic album Effigy Of The Forgotten: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLorNSZjcBI their newer stuff has obviously better production and one of my personal recommendations if you can take super/ultra heavy progressive Death Metal --> Wormed (Sci-Fi themed band from Spain) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Tv8vDNoQEE I don't listen to much Black Metal, but I really like Deafheaven (as already mentioned) and Der Weg einer Freiheit (they are quite atmospheric) --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQW5CW_7fIo
How much time does this bands need? Also something about a year or a work of some months? Just interested.
I decided to make a playlist if anyone feels like checking it out! https://play.spotify.com/user/124190585/playlist/2W1QA9iagqUzWEFQat14rA
I take that back about Deafheaven not really being metal Listened to New Bermuda today and it's definitely a much more metal album than Sunbather and Roads to Judah. I just heard too many post rock and shoegaze styles in their previous albums to think they were a straight up black metal band. Which isn't a bad thing - it's actually why I like listening to them.
They're not a straight up black metal band. You can't take influence from shoegaze, dream pop and post rock so much and be a straight up black metal band, lol.
After two years of playing guitar, I finally have a distortion pedal LOL I do like their mix of styles though. I've heard other bands try to do what Deafheaven does but it usually doesn't come across as elegantly or convincing. I still haven't heard their Demo EP. I plan to do it tomorrow.
