In the midst of rehearsals for Linkin Park's upcoming appearance at the 2015 Rock In Rio USA festival in Las Vegas, Mike Shinoda took a few moments out to speak with AltWire and answer questions about "Darker Than Blood", the band's 7th album due in 2016, and the band's desire to begin sponsoring consumer facing technology with a venture capital fund. Read the full Q&A here.
There were a few questions that didn't get to be answered, but those were mostly fan-service questions (acapellas/instrumentals etc) and really wouldn't have interested anyone apart from diehard fans. General public wouldn't have cared.
That was pretty cool for a short interview, Derek. Interesting to see how the next album would sound. I love it when they try new things but I really want the band to do well commercially also. Also Mike neither confirmed nor denied Fort Minor. He is playing it safe. I'd say he is doing something about it but it's nothing concrete yet.
That came surprisley New stuff 2016, as i thought. And no Hardrock kind of music if i interpret his words right, again something "new". Hope for a clubtour through Europe sometime
When "new album" and "next year" are in the same sentence, my heart sings. I know it's to be expected at this point, but I never get tired of being reminded that there's never long before LP has new music on the horizon.
Aw shit. Nice work, Derek. Can't wait! THE HYPE TRAIN HAS NO BREAKS-- *realises we're not even halfway through 2015* I GUESS IT DOES. Still, though. Confirmation of a new album next year is awesome. LP: Still in their peak. I wonder if we'll get an ARG this time. I loved the puzzles we got with ATS and Living Things. They could really find a cool way to integrate it with the "Consumer facing technology" stuff Mike talks about in this article. I really hope they do.
Perhaps I'm reading between the lines, but the whole casual throwing in of his Twitter/IG at the end kinda made the answer seem like "I'm totally going to grin and not say anything, but hey...follow me on my socials. hint hint." That's how I read it .
Yeah, that could be totally possible as well. Now that you say it... Time will tell, time will tell... Have all you good boys / good girls already followed Shinoda on Twitter and Instagram well-behavedly? Granny Shinoda hopes so!
