New music video for "Gold" is out now!
I didn't like the video. The song doesn't call for a full band performance and it just doesn't work together. The single art is great, though. Makes me a lot more excited for the song. "Shots" drops on January 26, btw, but I decided not to listen to it, as I would know the first two songs on the record by the time it arrived.
Really not liking the direction this albums taking, seems very folky, really not my thing. I'm loving the art, but so far it hasn't matched the songs themselves at all. It also feels like they've forgotten how to write a catchy, memorable chorus. I Bet My Life is just extremely annoying and out of touch with the rest of the song, and Gold, while an improvement, just isn't very catchy.
I can agree with everything I left. Their first album was a classic. I saw them twice because of it and they are now one of my favorite bands just off of one album but I do not like the two new songs very much. Even the other couple songs released that aren't on this album. While those songs were good, they weren't up to par with their first album or even 'Monster'
"I Bet My Life" is the poppy lead single. Today, the safest thing you can do os an acoustic driven folky song - and even with just sticking to that, they did it damn right. I don't know how you hear folk in "Gold" though. It's an industrial tinged-hip hop-pop-rock-whatevereverything and it sounds so damn good. The production is unbelievable. I'm liking these two new songs way more than "Battle Cry", "Warriors", "Who We Are" and "Ready Aim Fire". The only one released between the two albums that holds up is "Monster".
I'm now three for three on disappointing songs on this album. Shots feels like a song any other top 40 band could spit out. At this point Gold is my favourite but that's not saying much in comparison to the likes of Bleeding Out/Hear Me/Curse/Radioactive/Nothing Left To Say/Rocks or even It's Time. Still hyped, but less and less so after each release.
"Gold" is the only song I don't care for, and "Shots" is definitely my favorite so far. I doubt anything they release will top "Demons" for me, but I feel like I might end up liking this album as a whole more than the last. EDIT: Upon a couple more listens, I feel like I can easily put "Shots" in my top 5 ID songs. I can definitely find myself listening to this one often.
