If we get 12, 6 minute songs just like GATS plus an instrumental that will be over 72 minutes for the album. Do you think LP6 will be a long album?
I would personally love, love, LOVE to see an LP album that filled the entire 80 minutes of a disc. While I'm a bit skeptical still that we may get an album such as this, a first single with the length of 6 minutes gives me the hope that we'll see even longer track lengths than that. LP needs longer songs, they need to let the instruments breathe, and stand out on their own. Imagine if we had gotten a 6-7 minutes Castle of Glass, it would have been so much better (not saying it isn't good already, it's just too damn short).
I dunno. Chester said GATS is definitely one of the most "metal" song on the album in term of style, and metal songs tend to be longer. I doubt every track on the record will be that long, and I'm not expecting something above the 45/50 min mark (which would already be pretty cool), but hopefully I'll get surprised
Derek thinks that other songs on the album will be just as heavy as "Guilty" without being metal, if that's any consolation.
Actually, Chester said it himself First he mentioned GATS being one of the most metal in term of style, then he went on to say that the heaviness in GATS would be present throughout the whole record, which he described as "very high energy, agressive, and hard".
I personally took that to mean that "Guilty" is among the heaviest on the album. The band described "Living Things" in terms not too different from those so I don't trust the descriptions too much, while the song that we can actually listen to speaks for itself.
^ Yeah, I also think it will go like this. Generally, their lead single has been among the most energetic tracks on the record, without being the heaviest either (WID, The Catalyst, BID). Knowing that fact, I wouldn't be too surprised if the final tracklist has maybe 2 or 3 heavier songs, one of them being the "Monster one" from the record (Given Up, Victimized, WAK), and the rest being more melodic songs, yet still somehow energetic.
It's safe to assume that the album will be longer than Living Things, I suppose. I would be surprised if it was as long as LT or even shorter.
Something about 50 minutes would be perfect. Maybe up to 55-60. More than 60 would be too much for Linkin Park and, in my opinion, they are unlikely to pull it off. You never know, though. For some reason, I look at GATS as a three-minute song, rather than a six-minute one. It's just so energetic and kicks so much ass for these six minutes, that it doesn't feel long at all. Anyway, quality over quantity.
