Weren't you that guy who hated GATS just last night? Anyways 1. The Catalyst 2. Guilty All The Same 3. What I've Done 4. Burn It Down 5. One Step Closer 6. Somewhere I Belong Top 2 could probably be interchangeable, but I'm letting The Catalyst sit atop the throne considering GATS is so new.
In terms of how surprising they were, The Catalyst and GATS are definitely tied as N°1. As far as how I like the first singles, too early to rank GATS, so here it goes... 1. The Catalyst 2. One Step Closer 3. What I've Done 4. Somewhere I Belong 6. Burn It Down
Considering I did not begin following the band until around the time of Minutes To Midnight, I'm going to omit One Step Closer and Somewhere I Belong from my list. I'm evaluating the first singles by "wow" factor and by quality of the song. 1. The Catalyst 2. Guilty All The Same 3. What I've Done 4. BURN IT DOWN Guilty All The Same is a great song, but I can't quite put it above The Catalyst. I still vividly remember my first time hearing it and how blown away I was. It's difficult to beat that. Plus, I think The Catalyst is a better song in general. The "Lift me up / Let me go" bridge / outro might be the best 2 minutes of music Linkin Park has ever written. Edit: After doing some thinking, I realized why I have BURN IT DOWN below What I've Done. . Hearing the low quality recording of the song before a proper single release really ruined it for me.
