Was it really so hard to say, "Our next record's gonna be different from the last one," and leave it at that? Mike's gonna eat his words not if, but when the record isn't the paradigm shift he wants it to be.
But then we'd have nothing to talk about. And now we have: ''Mike Shinoda v. the state of rock music''
It seems like Mike's confidence about this album is unprecedented for him, I pray it doesn't lead to disappointment. It seems we're all assuming, to some degree, that the new album will have a heavier focus on "rock" music (whatever that means). In all honesty, I just hope the new songs translate well live. While the set-lists were better for the last tour, I was upset that only a handful of Living Things songs were played. Now that LP is adding more and more songs to their discography, I think it'll be interesting to see which songs get cut out of the standard set-list.
When I wrote "before Living Things", I meant the period after the release ATS and before the release of Living Things.
Alright. I have a feeling, that this will be a Living things part 2 but this time I just hope that is doesn't get boring and repetitive so quickly. I mean words like "Saving rock" and "Energetic/heavy" wasn't really the words i was looking for in the next record, for multiple reasons: 1. Heavy means a lot of things. Heavy vocals(Chester can still scream... but the lyrics when he screams are usually so... childish/angsty + his raspy voice is almost gone, while he can sing clean better than ever) We either need heavy electronics or heavy guitar riffs(which seems to be the most plausible) but i mean... Haven't we heard what Brad/Mike/Phoenix can pull off? Do you really wanna listen to those boring octaves and uninspiring solos? I mean if they make a Guitar heavy album, it has to be better than anything they have made so far, in order for the album to be on "another level" 2. Those words just doesn't seem inspiring to me. Where is the creativity? I mean if all I want is heavy and energetic songs, i wouldn't honestly still listen to Linkin Park 3. The band has a habit of writing cheasy lyrics to anything that is considered heavy. I mean the rap part in Victimized is awesome, the chorus... Meeh kinda ruined it. Lost in the Echo was cool but it just lacked layers.
I want the punk pop song like this song don't give me to much hate
But honestly isn't that all we ever do on this website anyway? I just told what i associated with those words that's all.. The other interview had me much more excited - but the hole thing about saving the rock genre, idk man. I just want some good music lol. EDIT: This just all comes down to the fact that me and the band are floating away from each other musically. I, like alot of other people, felt like LT was a bit of let down. And everything i have heard since(Don't get me started on A light that never comes or recharged) has given me a lot of reasons to doubt the quality of the next record. And don't give me that "The next linkin park record will sound nothing like that" - Cause as you said yourself, you never know. I haven't lost faith though, i really think LP can make GREAT music- Don't get me wrong nothing they have ever made is that bad - LT is a solid Rock/Alternative record --> But personally i didn't get connected in the same way as any of the other albums made me feel.
It was moved by one of the LPA team members. The discussion was switching towards Mike vs. state of rock and they decided to make it a whole other thread to keep the other one on topic.
