Honestly, does it really matter? As long as we like the music, who cares?

If it has sold that many copies, cool.

    If it hasn't, who cares.

More sales -> More money -> More exclusivity/flexibility for the band.

    Yes, we should care.

While true, them being successful isn't something that needs to be worried about. Until the day that they go completely fucking bonkers and start making Country Hip-Hop (which is sadly, a thing), they will always sell millions of albums.

RIAA certifications are for U.S. sales only.

Based on international certifications alone, the album has sold at least 1.2 million copies worldwide. With a lot of certifications not being automatic (the record label has to pay a fee every time they want to get updated sales figures to see if they've hit the next certification threshold), 2.5 million copies doesn't seem THAT unrealistic.

True, but that might not be an accurate representation of current sales. If I'm not mistaken, you have to resubmit to get an updated number of albums. If that's the case, Living Things might have gone platinum.

I'd be impressed if it got that...considering the absolutely piss poor promotion some of the singles got on this album, and Warner's insistence in delaying the release dates of those singles repeatedly. Warner handled this entire album so pathetically we even mocked them for it in our April Fools Day joke.

I don't blame Warner, Mike Shinodas Laptop Experience has been far too interested in dance mixes and selling shoes and Hondas in the last decade or so, Living Things comparative failure is completely on the guys that made it.

How could you not blame Warner? They've screwed the pooch so many times with releases of singles and videos. The fact that some official singles were released in physical form 4 months after the single "debuted," and i use that word loosely, is completely unacceptable. It was almost like the only single they cared about was BURN IT DOWN because it was the lead single. Any other follow up singles, LOST IN THE ECHO and CASTLE OF GLASS, were never given the time of day, nor the huge push to radio stations and other outlets to help support the release. It was almost like Warner wanted this album to fail. To me, that is a travesty and an unacceptable way of handling clients.
