My main beef with the episode is the way they handled suspense. The first two episodes did suspense really well.

The shit with Tyreese near the car. Really? They show him surrounded and probably overcome with walkers, the group decides they have to leave him, cut to commercial, back from commercial and he comes popping out of the forest. There was no build or wait or tension or anything. It felt pointless.

As for Carol, I just don't buy it. This is the same woman that was so timid she refused to leave her abusive husband or even let other people come to her defense. Now she's murdering people in the group? It just feels like a huge jump. I liked what they did in episode 2, where she told the little girl she was too weak. That was like her projecting her own insecurities onto the child. But the murders don't feel like character growth, they feel like inconsistency.

The commercials probably ruined it for you. I watched it without commercials and it didn't make me feel that way.

It's been more than a year in a world full of zombies. She's changed.

Well, I doubt they're going to try to hang her like they tried with Thomas.

And I'd just like to say that with the introduction of Lizzie, Beth, you won't be around too much longer.

Oh, and Kirkman just must not like Glenn too much.

Kirkman picks a mate for Lucille? Glenn.

Kirkman writes an episode which features the new pandemic infecting survivors and a main character becomes infected? Glenn.

    Poor guy.

I actually didn't watch it with commercials either, and I think it made it worse. It was like "Oh no Tyreese!!" *ten seconds later* "Oh, you're fine." Really bad story-telling there.

Right, but the problem is that none of the other characters really have, which makes her sudden change seem ridiculous in comparison. Rick is still the same *I wanna do the tough thing but ultimately do the "right" thing* reluctant leader. Daryl is still the tough guy with a heart of gold. Glenn and Maggie are still the same. Herschel doesn't seem much different. Why is it that everyone else remains the same, but Carol for whatever reason has become what she has?

I wonder how old Clementine is in Season Two. She looks more aged than usual. Maybe a few months or a year older?

I read in one place two years..? I'm not sure how they'd explain that. Another place said a couple months, which would make more sense.

Maybe a few years, since she looks a bit taller, but not too much since she still fits her clothes and her cap.

Also, what do you think happened to Omid and Christa?

I see people looking into stories and wondering why things are the way they are, why something wasn't written differently. It's not a bad thing, but it's not something I do, and I can say that you do have a point here, but I, myself, always just watch what I'm presented with, and I don't try to look into it – I like it or I don't. Although it may be just that I didn't realize what you're saying by myself, and that's why I can't relate to your words.

That's fair, and you're not the only one who watches that way. But there is a place for critiquing and reading into things in anything like shows or music or film or whatever.

As much potential as I see in The Walking Dead show, the way it's written really begs for the viewer not to look too closely at it. If you do, it kind of falls apart in a lot of places. I'm still hoping this fourth season mostly continues with the vibe the first two episodes had though.

And I don't look closely at it, and I don't mind it. Makes sense.

I get the feeling that now that Rick has kicked Carol out of the group, she's gonna encounter a new group that will serve as the focus of the spin-off.

That's why some people think shallow pieces of work are good. Like Transformers 2 and 3. Or The Walking Dead.

It doesn't really matter if something is deep or shallow, it's all entertainment and escapism.

Some people want an art form to go along with their escapism. Some want explosions.

So how was the recent episode? Any reason to watch it? Does Maggie get naked? Does Carol develop superpowers and fly off into space?

Yes. Nothing wrong with enjoying a simple melody.

No reason to think you'd like any episode of this show.

    ~

Great episode, nice balance of dialogue/character development and tension (dat Daryl/Bob scene). I think that people who liked the first two episodes, but disliked the third, should be pleased.

That's how I felt. I still think Carol's change came too suddenly and strongly, but the episode was paced really well. The intro was great.

It'd be cool to see a wild tiger here in Iowa.

I prefer her suicide in the comic rather than her becoming stronger as a person, but eh.

IMO, they are handling Bob's alcoholism oddly, and poorly. I do buy him surviving two other failed groups, not because of any prowess, but because when shit goes down he'd more than likely be running or hiding.

I wouldn't buy it. He almost died in the stupidest way possible in the first episode. The writers make him seem like a helpless man.
