Ahah, yes, I guess that's a good way of expressing it! Really liked that first listen of the record. I need more to have a better opinion, but damn, if I had to pick a favorite for now, it would be "All Time Low". That song is a real fucking song. I can't think of another way to say it EDit: and yes, also Various Methods of Escape.... Well, I think I'm gonna scrape the idea of choosing a favorite a this moment ^^'
Love it. It's a very groovy album. Love the trips into falsetto. I think the overall vocal performance/production is great. Lyrics are much better than I thought (Copy of A had me scared). It's like the best of each era. TDS themes, The Fragile style claustrophobic layers in some songs, With Teeth era vocal experimentation and pop hooks, the Slip guitars, Ghosts odd acoustic instruments. Only half way through but Satellite is a stand out for me and Various Methods of Escape is amazingly awesome. Edit: And then Running hits you with this hypnotic Brazilian festival beat and guitar hook. Haha wow. Unexpected. Now In Two is my favorite. Phenomenal album.
Love the changing favorites we've got going on. Fucking called it. This album, it just does this thing.
In another attempt at trying to raise my awareness in music, I will give this album a listen. May sound a bit surprising to some of you but I haven't listened to a full NIN album yet. Or know about any high profile tracks.
Okay, this is a fucking awesome album. It's really unique. Absolutely up there with YZ and TDS without a problem. I can't even choose my favorite song. Everything, Satellite, Copy Of A, Find My Way, Running.... Such good songs.
This is probably the best album to start out with. I don't think that's just the new album excitement talking, this one is really well written and intricate without being way too long like The Fragile.
Fuuuuuck must resist urge to listen to leak. Had set aside Friday night to get a little bit stoned and listen to it off a CD on a good stereo...
Check out the "Definitive" sets on SoundCloud. I think they'd make a good introduction for you. EDIT: they've reacted to the leakage:
Definitely think Trent leaked this himself since the stream was coming up and he'd want everyone to hear it together. That quote makes that seem even more likely.
Ahah, this made me realize I've never listened to The Fragile from beginning to end. I've always played either the first CD or the second one... So, from that point of view, The Fragile has never sounded too long to me Back to this new record, this shit is dope. I love the hypnotizing tone of the whole thing!
This is by far, my favorite album of the year. Trent really raised the bar, I wasn't expecting any of this to come out of him. To me, this is obviously the most Trent has ever been honest to himself while writing. My favorite songs so far are: Various Methods of Escape, All Time Low, While I'm Still Here, Copy of A, and In Two.
I listen to it front to back last night. Needs a couple more listens. I'm not sure I love the way vocals were recorded, sound a bit drowned out.
I think that ... every review that I've so much as glimpsed has been super-positive. My copy of the album should arrive in about a week, give or take, and, after reading people's impressions here, I'm now more excited than ever.
