Mainstream EDM tracks are never known for their groundbreaking lyrics. They're intended for easy consumption and meant to be catchy without confusing the listener. Expecting Mike to drop an old school high voltage like verse on a dance track is pretty unreasonable considering the normal output for that genre. And this is coming from someone who loves EDM music and even wants to be an EDM producer. These songs just aren't meant to be lyrically challenging.
People have got to chill. It's just a collaboration with an EDM artist. Since when have EDM songs ever had exceptional lyrics? All it has to be is simple and catchy, like almost every other song on the radio these days. It's like LP's collaboration with Busta Rhymes.
Here is another classic example of people putting Linkin Park on a pedistal. They are a band who has thrived on making simple songs and it seems like everyone has forgotten that. People keep expecting them to be something they are not and then get disappointed when their high expectations are not met. I miss the days when the fanbase got excited for something and anything from the band.
Don't forget this is the band that referred to mainstream music as 'having too much candy' and now they're right up in there making dem sweet mainstream(TO THE MAX) tunes. Eh, I don't care....who am I kidding. Wake me up when next album hits.
This was also a band who stated that they like to take elements of what's popular and incorporate it into their music... If you think for one second that Linkin Park was never into making mainstream music, your understanding of the band has been greatly misinterpreted.
